Team Lead - Trading

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Team Lead - Trading based in Brazil. This is a hands-on engineering leadership role focused on building and scaling a high-performance algorithmic trading platform. You will combine technical leadership with people management, remaining deeply involved in architecture, coding, design reviews, and production systems. The role carries ownership of the team's technical direction, roadmap, delivery, reliability, and long-term engineering practices. You’ll work on demanding systems where latency, throughput, concurrency, correctness, and availability are critical to the user experience. The position requires strong expertise across frontend and backend engineering, distributed systems, databases, and low-level performance optimization. You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Operations, Compliance, Clearing, and other engineering teams in a remote-first environment. This opportunity is designed for an experienced engineering leader with a background in trading or exchange systems who wants to remain technically hands-on while developing a high-performing team.

Own the technical direction and architecture of trading-platform services, making informed trade-offs with consideration for long-term scalability and maintainability. Translate ambiguous business objectives into clearly scoped, sequenced engineering initiatives and establish predictable delivery practices. Lead day-to-day engineering execution through sprint or cycle planning, prioritization, dependency management, and removal of technical blockers. Remain hands-on with the codebase, contributing to implementation, reviewing pull requests, participating in design reviews, and solving complex technical challenges. Establish and maintain high standards for code quality, system design, testing, and engineering practices. Own production performance and reliability, including latency, throughput, correctness, availability, on-call health, incident response, and post-incident improvements. Lead the hiring, onboarding, mentoring, feedback, performance management, and career development of a small engineering team. Partner with Product, Operations, Compliance, Clearing, and other engineering teams to align technical priorities with business and operational requirements. Guide the development of robust trading systems capable of handling demanding concurrency, throughput, and availability requirements. Represent the team's roadmap, technical risks, dependencies, and trade-offs to relevant stakeholders. Requirements Senior- or Staff-level software engineering experience combined with previous experience leading engineers, either as a formal manager or technical lead. Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, provide actionable feedback, and raise the technical capabilities of a team. Proven track record of delivering complex software systems, including the ability to scope initiatives, sequence work, manage trade-offs, and deliver against commitments. Professional experience developing trading or exchange systems, such as Order Management Systems (OMS), Execution Management Systems (EMS), exchanges, market-making platforms, algorithmic trading systems, or quantitative trading infrastructure. Strong coding experience across low- and high-level languages such as C/C++, Go, Zig, Rust, Java, Scala, or Python. Deep knowledge of low-latency and high-throughput optimization, concurrency, distributed systems, scalability, high availability, and databases. Experience with messaging queues, message brokers, and event-driven or distributed architectures. Strong system-design capabilities, including object-oriented data modeling, service-oriented architecture, system abstraction, and long-term scalability considerations. Experience developing and implementing Order Management Systems and Risk Management Systems. Analytical and data-oriented approach to engineering and problem-solving. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with non-technical stakeholders. Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-changing environments with limited process. Experience with observability, tracing, continuous profiling, benchmarking, financial ledgers, or statistical and quantitative analysis is advantageous. Familiarity with FIX protocol and financial-market infrastructure such as exchanges, broker-dealers, or clearing organizations is a plus. Experience with major cloud platforms, particularly GCP, as well as Docker and Kubernetes, is beneficial.
