The Modern Heritage Grant Program supports research and documentation on the UAE's modern built heritage and its connections to the wider GCC. Cycle 2 runs under the theme 'Modern Heritage as Living Practice: Adaptation, Memory, Contribution, and Futures.' The program includes creative research, scholarly research, publication grants and a research initiation fund. The dedicated Modern Heritage Research Grants lane supports independent investigative work, including research on adaptive reuse, digital documentation, AI, heritage visualisation, conservation and the relationship between modern heritage and future cities. The current cycle opened on 15 August 2026 and accepts applications through 15 October 2026.
Eligibility requirements
The dedicated research-grant lane is open to researchers, practitioners and academics interested in the UAE's modern architectural heritage. Individuals and collectives may apply. Residents and non-residents can participate in teams, but the lead grant holder must be a UAE resident. Proposals must address the UAE built environment from the mid-to-late twentieth century or related current/future impacts, be based on validated primary research, and be original. The current research-grant page states a maximum proposal amount of AED 50,000 and a six-month project period.
