Overview
2027 Humboldt Chair appointment for an active senior academic researcher proposing high-level research linking Costa Rica, Germany and Central America.
Complete research opportunity details
The Humboldt Chair, established by UCR and DAAD, is selecting the person who will hold the chair during 2027. The research proposal should be high-level, transdisciplinary, supranational and intercultural, with an explicit Costa Rica–Germany–Central America connection and relevance to the Humboldt intellectual legacy. The selected chairholder carries out the approved work plan, gives an inaugural lecture, presents research results, fosters international scientific and cultural relations and may be asked to teach limited academic activities.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be active academic researchers. UCR applicants must hold the rank of Catedrático/a; applicants from another Costa Rican public university must hold the equivalent rank; applicants working outside Costa Rica must hold the equivalent senior academic rank. For United States institutions, Associate Professor is accepted for nomination, with Full Professor preferred. The person must reside in Costa Rica. The proposal may be new or part of an ongoing research project.
Tips for this research opportunity
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Match your research background to the project, laboratory, supervisor and required methods rather than applying only from the title.
- Prepare a focused academic CV, transcripts, publications and research statement or proposal when requested by the official call.
- Confirm funding duration, stipend/salary, tuition coverage, start date and eligibility for international applicants.
- Contact a supervisor before applying only when the official instructions recommend or require it.
Verification notes
The official UCR call, Humboldt Chair site and 2027 call PDF were checked. The call requires digital submission by 30 September 2026. Public UCR pages show a clock time but do not explicitly identify a timezone, so only the authoritative deadline date is normalized.
Job and Scholarship is the discovery and verification layer. Confirm eligibility, dates, salary/funding and application instructions on the original source before submitting anything.
