Overview
The University of Cape Town Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is accepting 2027 scholarship applications from eligible African students who already applied for their first UCT bachelor's degree and face significant social and economic barriers.
Complete scholarship details
The programme provides scholarship and comprehensive support designed to help academically talented young African leaders access a UCT education and develop leadership and career skills. UCT's ordinary undergraduate admission application period has already closed; only applicants who already submitted a UCT bachelor's application and later receive an admission offer can qualify for this scholarship. The undergraduate Scholars Program deadline is 30 September 2026.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be citizens of an African country, including South Africa; be applying for their first bachelor's degree; demonstrate academic talent and commitment to excellence; face significant social and economic barriers; show transformative and ethical leadership potential; and commit to serving their communities. UCT admission remains a prerequisite.
Tips for this scholarship
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
Verification notes
Verified on UCT's official Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program application page. The undergraduate scholarship application deadline is 30 September 2026. UCT explicitly notes that 2027 undergraduate admission applications are already closed, so this record is relevant only to candidates who previously submitted a UCT bachelor's application.
Job and Scholarship is the discovery and verification layer. Confirm eligibility, dates, salary/funding and application instructions on the original source before submitting anything.
