UNESCO is accepting applications and nominations for the 2026 UNESCO–Al Fozan International Prize, which recognizes young scientists under 40 for significant STEM research, education, innovation or international cooperation.

The biennial prize recognizes five laureates representing UNESCO's five geographic regions: Africa, Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and North America, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Each laureate receives US$50,000, a medal and a diploma. The prize covers recognized achievements in STEM research including emerging technologies, STEM education and dissemination, creativity and innovation, and international or regional STEM cooperation.
Eligibility requirements
Candidates must be under 40 at the application deadline and have recognized significant achievements or contributions in an eligible STEM area. A candidate can prepare an application, but it is valid only with a nomination from an eligible nominating body. Eligible nominators include Member State governments through National Commissions, UNESCO-partner NGOs, UNESCO Chairs, Category 2 institutes/centres, international scientific unions and qualifying university leadership. Self-nomination without an eligible nomination is not accepted. Applications and nominations must be in English or French.
