Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Utility Sales Director – Wind Commercial Sales based in United States. This is a senior commercial leadership role focused on building strategic relationships across the North American wind and utility sector. You will own the commercial strategy, pipeline, forecast, and financial commitments for a portfolio of high-value strategic accounts. The role combines executive-level customer engagement with leadership of complex, multi-year transactions and negotiations. You will act as a trusted industry advisor, using knowledge of regulation, procurement, project economics, and energy markets to shape customer strategies. You will lead cross-functional teams through sophisticated deal cycles, including transactions valued at $100M or more. The position also offers significant autonomy, with responsibility for identifying growth opportunities and expanding relationships across adjacent markets and business areas. Regular travel and close collaboration with senior customers and internal stakeholders make this an influential role within the renewable energy sector.

Own the commercial strategy, account plans, sales pipeline, forecasts, and annual orders and cash commitments across an assigned portfolio of utility customers and, where applicable, strategic IPPs, developers, or other energy accounts. Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior and executive customer leaders, positioning the organization as a long-term strategic partner beyond individual transactions. Apply deep understanding of utility regulation, rate cases, integrated resource planning, procurement processes, project economics, financing, and risk allocation to influence customer strategy and develop tailored commercial solutions. Identify account expansion opportunities across new business units, territories, projects, and adjacent opportunities within existing customer relationships. Lead cross-functional deal teams through transaction strategy, commercial trade-offs, contract structuring, negotiation, and closure of large and complex agreements, including transactions of $100 million or more. Translate portfolio strategies into account-specific pricing, positioning, and commercial structures aligned with customer requirements and procurement environments. Oversee studies, estimates, formal proposals, and customer requests to restructure, re-profile, or renegotiate existing agreements. Drive performance against commercial commitments related to orders, margins, and cash flow. Monitor regulatory developments, procurement trends, competitor activity, and market dynamics, translating insights into actionable recommendations for pricing, product positioning, and business planning. Collaborate with global sales colleagues and adjacent business units to identify and develop cross-business opportunities within strategic accounts. Where applicable, coach, mentor, and develop Sales Managers and other commercial professionals while maintaining direct ownership of strategic relationships and complex transactions. Manage performance, talent development, and resource allocation across accounts and commercial priorities. Requirements Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, finance, economics, analytics, or a related discipline. 8+ years of progressive sales experience , with a demonstrated track record of closing large, complex, multi-year transactions, including deals valued at $100 million or more. Demonstrated experience within the utility, independent power producer (IPP), developer, regulated energy, or comparable energy sector. Deep knowledge of utility industry structures, including regulatory frameworks, rate cases, integrated resource planning, procurement processes, project economics, and financing. Strong understanding of wind or comparable capital-intensive energy markets, including competitive positioning and customer decision drivers. Proven success with consultative, insight-led selling and the ability to challenge customer thinking, influence project strategy, and serve as a trusted senior advisor. Established relationships and credibility with senior stakeholders across the North American utility, IPP, developer, or comparable energy ecosystem. Strong commercial negotiation capabilities, with the ability to construct and defend deal terms using data, financial analysis, market intelligence, and regulatory insight. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, build internal alignment, resolve complex commercial issues, and drive transactions to completion. Strong executive presence, business acumen, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior customer leadership. Disciplined pipeline and forecast management experience using Salesforce or an equivalent CRM platform. Strong strategic thinking, analytical capabilities, and ability to translate market intelligence into commercial action. Experience coaching, developing, and deploying commercial talent is an asset. Ability to travel approximately 50% , depending on business requirements. Benefits Competitive compensation aligned with experience, education, skills, and geographic considerations. Access to health and wellness resources, including confidential employee assistance services. Retirement savings opportunities with potential employer matching or contributions, subject to applicable plans. Tuition assistance and professional development opportunities. Adoption assistance and paid parental leave. Disability and life insurance benefits. Paid holidays and permissive/flexible time off. Remote work arrangement.
