Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VP, Engineering, Network Observability based in the United States. This is a senior engineering leadership role overseeing the technology behind a sophisticated network observability platform. You will set the technical vision, architecture, and multi-year engineering roadmap for a data-intensive product serving complex enterprise environments. The role combines deep networking expertise with large-scale data processing, cloud and on-premises software, AI, and operational excellence. You will lead geographically distributed engineering teams and develop managers and senior technical leaders across the organization. Your work will enable customers to gain predictive visibility into network health, performance, and behavior across data centers, WANs, cloud environments, and the edge. You will partner closely with Product, Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, and executive leadership to connect engineering execution with customer and business outcomes. This opportunity is suited to an experienced technology leader who thrives on complex infrastructure challenges, high-performance systems, and building exceptional engineering organizations.

As the VP, Engineering, Network Observability, you will provide strategic and technical leadership across the engineering organization while ensuring the platform evolves to meet demanding customer and market requirements. Set the technical direction and multi-year engineering roadmap for network observability, network performance monitoring, and infrastructure monitoring capabilities. Lead engineering teams responsible for enterprise infrastructure products and services across both SaaS and on-premises environments. Define and evolve architectures for data-intensive platforms that ingest, process, and analyze network telemetry, including NetFlow/IPFIX/sFlow, SNMP, packet capture, synthetic testing, and streaming telemetry. Drive the development of AI, machine learning, generative AI, and agentic capabilities for anomaly detection, root-cause analysis, and predictive network insights. Establish pragmatic strategies for evolving long-lived codebases, addressing technical debt, and modernizing the technology stack. Build and lead high-performing, geographically distributed engineering organizations, including effective collaboration across multiple sites and offshore teams. Coach, mentor, and develop engineering managers, senior individual contributors, and technical leaders. Establish software development standards, engineering processes, and best practices across the organization. Develop strategic plans that align technical priorities with business objectives in partnership with Product Management, executive leadership, and engineering teams. Engage directly with strategic enterprise and government customers to understand technical requirements, support critical relationships, and resolve escalations. Ensure engineering delivery, platform reliability, performance, and operational excellence remain aligned with customer expectations. Requirements The role requires extensive software engineering leadership experience combined with strong knowledge of networking, observability, distributed systems, and enterprise technology delivery. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. 15+ years of experience working in software engineering environments. 10+ years of experience managing senior individual contributors, technical leads, and engineering managers, including managers of managers. Direct experience developing network observability, network performance monitoring, or network and infrastructure management products. Strong technical understanding of networking fundamentals and telemetry, including TCP/IP, routing and switching, NetFlow/IPFIX, SNMP, packet analysis, WAN/SD-WAN, and related technologies. Familiarity with key open-source technologies such as ClickHouse, Prometheus/Grafana, and Kubernetes. Experience delivering high-performance hardware or appliance-based systems for network telemetry and packet processing. Strong technical knowledge of SaaS/PaaS engineering as well as on-premises enterprise software delivery. Strong software development background in Java, C++, or comparable object-oriented programming languages. Experience operating at the C-level or reporting directly to C-level leadership. Strong written, verbal, and cross-functional communication skills. Experience working within collaborative and agile software development environments. Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or Oracle is preferred. Experience with high-throughput data pipelines, streaming systems, time-series technologies, and large-scale data storage is advantageous. Background in AIOps, machine learning for anomaly detection, or predictive analytics applied to network or IT operations is a plus. Experience modernizing technology stacks toward open-source and cloud-portable architectures is beneficial. Familiarity with government and public-sector requirements such as FedRAMP, StateRAMP, and ATO processes is preferred. Post-acquisition technology integration experience is advantageous. Prior customer-facing technical experience, such as sales engineering, professional services, support, or product management, is a plus. Experience across both smaller organizations and larger enterprise environments is preferred. Benefits Remote work within the United States. Comprehensive benefits supporting health, financial well-being, and overall wellness. Professional development budget. Dedicated wellness days and wellness week. Lifestyle Spending Account.
