Web Accessibility Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Web Accessibility Specialist based in Canada. This contract role will help ensure a bilingual digital platform delivers accessible, inclusive experiences across public and authenticated user journeys. You will assess web applications against agreed accessibility criteria and provide practical guidance to support accessible implementation. The role combines hands-on accessibility testing with clear reporting and remediation verification. You will evaluate both English and French experiences across key user flows, including forms, dynamic interfaces, documents, and media. Working closely with product, design, content, business, and technical teams, you will help identify barriers and translate findings into actionable improvements. The environment values collaborative delivery, specialist expertise, and thorough documentation, with nonprofit or education experience considered an asset.

Conduct practical WCAG audits across public-facing and signed-in digital experiences. Perform manual accessibility testing using keyboard navigation and screen readers, complemented by automated accessibility checks. Assess accessibility across forms, dynamic interfaces, error messaging, documents, media, and other key user journeys. Test and compare English and French experiences to identify accessibility issues and inconsistencies. Provide clear, actionable remediation guidance that enables technical teams to address identified accessibility barriers. Verify completed fixes against the accessibility criteria established for the project. Produce concise, well-structured documentation and reporting of findings, recommendations, and remediation status. Collaborate with internal product, UX/design, business, content, and technical delivery teams throughout implementation and handover. Requirements 5–10 years of relevant professional experience in web accessibility, accessibility testing, auditing, or accessible web application implementation. Practical experience conducting WCAG audits and assessing web applications against accessibility standards. Strong hands-on experience with manual keyboard and screen-reader testing, supported by automated accessibility testing tools. Demonstrated knowledge of accessible forms, dynamic user interfaces, error messages, digital documents, and multimedia content. Familiarity with Canadian accessibility requirements and the ability to translate accessibility findings into clear, actionable remediation recommendations. Strong documentation, reporting, communication, and collaboration skills. Fluent spoken and written English is required; fluency in spoken and written French is a significant asset. Canada-based candidates are preferred, although contractors located in the USA may also be considered. Availability to work during standard Eastern Time business hours is required to align with the project team. Experience working in nonprofit or education environments is an asset.
