The official 2027 call states bursary values of about R200,000 for PhD or R190,000 for LLM for means-tested candidates or students with averages of at least 75%. Eligibility requirements
Applicants must study full-time at Wits under the SARChI Chair or associates and be South African or from another African country, including Namibia. A minimum 65% average in the preceding LLB or LLM is required. The published maximum entry ages for 2027 are 30 for LLM and 32 for PhD applicants. Final bursary approval is subject to NRF approval and successful admission to the relevant Wits School of Law programme.
