Full Job Description

Edge Connectivity Services enables AWS Cloud connectivity options for US Intelligence and Department of Defense customers. These connectivity options allow our customer to deploy and run their isolated, sensitive workloads in an environment exclusive for their use-case. We help our customers to onboard, manage, and scale their connectivity options for maintaining persistent connection to AWS Isolated cloud.

In this role, you will build network pathways with which customers connect to Amazon's Dedicated Cloud partitions. You'll architect and implement software security protocols across Wide Area Networks (WANs), ensuring seamless and secure access to dedicated cloud environments. By developing sophisticated control and dataplane systems, you'll protect critical customer connections flowing through Amazon's global network of datacenters. You'll leverage the AWS ecosystem and integrate with third-party solutions to create secure pathways that meet our customers' stringent security requirements. Working alongside technology experts across Amazon, you'll define the next generation of dedicated cloud connectivity, setting new standards for enterprise-grade security. Your expertise in network encryption and software development will directly impact how how AWS customers access their mission-critical cloud infrastructure.

If Arlington, VA (Arlington HQ2):

This role will sit in our new headquarters in Northern Virginia, where Amazon will invest $2.5 billion dollars, occupy 4 million square feet of energy efficient office space, and create at least 25,000 new full-time jobs. Our employees and the neighboring community will also benefit from the associated investments from the Commonwealth including infrastructure updates, public transportation improvements, and new access to Reagan National Airport.

By working together on behalf of our customers, we are building the future one innovative product, service, and idea at a time. Are you ready to embrace the challenge? Come build the future with us.

This position requires that the candidate selected must be a US Citizen and obtain and maintain a security clearance at the TS/SCI with polygraph level. Upon start, the selected candidate will be sponsored for a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

Key job responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary Amazonians to design, build, and implement cloud based services for managing encrypted network connections
  • Build distributed systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, with ease of management and use.
  • Influence product direction through data-backed technical insights and framing solutions in terms of business impact.
  • Mentor your teammates, helping to grow and develop their technical and operational skills
  • Participate in oncall rotation in support of our services

A day in the life Our team follows the Agile development methodology. Team members participate in daily stand-ups and weekly sprint planning and backlog grooming sessions. We conduct annual program planning and quarterly prioritization meetings to align tasks with organizational goals. Developers, Program Management (PM) team, and Single-Threaded Owners (STOs) collaborate to define and execute these tasks. Each developer serves as on-call support approximately four times per year to maintain our service availability target.

Generative AI & Accelerated Development

  • Experience using AI-powered code generation and review tools to rapidly iterate on infrastructure automation scripts, configuration templates, and systems tooling and to automate investigative, diagnostic, or operational tasks
  • Ability to apply GenAI capabilities to accelerate test case generation, integration testing, and validation of complex infrastructure components — reducing cycle times without sacrificing quality or security rigor
  • Comfort using GenAI tools to rapidly synthesize technical documentation, compliance frameworks, and architectural patterns — accelerating research and decision-making in ambiguous problem spaces
  • Awareness of the responsible use of GenAI in security-sensitive environments, including understanding of data handling boundaries, model limitations, and appropriate human-in-the-loop validation practices
