2D Compositing

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a 2D Compositing based in South Africa. This is a remote post-production opportunity focused on bringing animated scenes together into polished, visually compelling final shots. You will combine animation, artwork, effects, lighting details, transitions, and camera movements to achieve the intended visual and narrative result. The role begins early in the creative process, requiring close involvement from the animatic stage to anticipate compositing needs. You will collaborate with illustrators, animators, producers, and art direction to ensure production assets are delivered in the formats and quality required. The position combines artistic judgment with strong technical skills in After Effects, rendering, file organization, and video output. You will work across international animation projects while responding closely to client requirements and visual references. Success in this role requires creativity, attention to detail, communication, resourcefulness, and a strong commitment to delivery timelines.

Composite 2D animated scenes by combining animation, artwork, lighting details, visual effects, transitions, and camera movements to achieve the desired final result. Review animatics and become involved early in the production process to identify compositing requirements and potential technical or visual challenges. Communicate compositing needs clearly to illustrators, animators, producers, and other members of the production team. Import image sequences from Toon Boom Harmony and incorporate them into After Effects alongside Photoshop assets. Apply visual effects and manage effects libraries to achieve the required artistic finish. Create and manage multiple renders according to client-specified formats and codecs. Organize project files and compositions efficiently within After Effects. Export image sequences and video assets using appropriate formats and codecs. Interpret and replicate visual references accurately while maintaining a strong artistic standard. Anticipate potential production issues and communicate proactively to help prevent delays or rework. Collaborate effectively with international production teams and respond constructively to feedback. Deliver assigned work according to agreed schedules and project requirements. Requirements: Undergraduate or postgraduate studies, courses, or diplomas related to digital art, animation, post-production, or a comparable field. A couple of years of experience in 2D, 3D, or live-action post-production, depending on project requirements. Professional experience working with client requirements and translating creative direction into finished visual work. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Adobe After Effects. Basic knowledge of Toon Boom Harmony. Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, and Media Encoder. Familiarity with Trapcode Particular, After Effects scripts, and other After Effects tools. Strong understanding of video output formats and codecs, including the ability to create and manage renders. Experience importing image sequences and Photoshop files into After Effects and integrating them into compositions. Good artistic ability and strong attention to detail. Ability to interpret and accurately reproduce visual references. Highly communicative and proactive, with the ability to anticipate potential issues and raise concerns early. Comfortable receiving and applying constructive feedback. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills in a remote production environment. Resourceful and solution-oriented, with the ability to simplify workflows and resolve technical or creative challenges. Strong commitment to project deadlines and delivery requirements.
