To help us achieve this, we are looking for an AI & Automation Engineer (m/f/d). In this role, you will analyze operational processes, identify automation opportunities, and transform them into reliable end-to-end solutions. You will design, build, and continuously improve automations—with and without AI agents—primarily using n8n. Your focus will be on hands-on implementation and the long-term optimization of automations that increase efficiency, ensure quality, and enable our continued growth.

Please note: We are an office-first company. This means you will work on-site every day at one of our offices in Hamburg or Kiel, collaborating closely with your team, business stakeholders, and the brand. This close collaboration enables you to actively shape cross-functional work and develop the best possible automation solutions together.

Your Mission

• Build, maintain, and continuously improve end-to-end process automations (primarily using n8n)
• Develop and maintain API integrations with internal and external systems (e.g. Shopify, Personio, Slack, payment providers, and logistics platforms)
• Design, implement, and operate AI agents, including prompt engineering, tool routing, and guardrails
• Analyze existing business processes and translate operational requirements into scalable technical automation workflows
• Monitor, debug, and continuously optimize existing automations to ensure reliability and performance
• Prepare, analyze, and interpret data (e.g. using SQL and BigQuery) to identify optimization and automation opportunities
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Customer Support, Finance, Operations, and Marketing, to drive sustainable process improvements
• Document automation solutions, technical decisions, and best practices to ensure quality, maintainability, and scalability

Qualifications And Requirements

• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript, with solid experience in developing technical workflows and automation solutions
• Hands-on experience with automation platforms such as n8n, Make, Zapier, Workato, or similar tools—or strong software engineering skills with the ability to ramp up quickly
• Deep understanding of API integrations, including REST, GraphQL, Webhooks, and OAuth 2.0
• Confident working with JSON, data structures, and complex data mapping
• Solid SQL skills, including joins, aggregations, filtering, and data validation
• Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and AI agents, including tool calling and routing
• Strong debugging skills and a structured, analytical approach to problem-solving
• Self-driven and accountable, with a strong commitment to quality and maintainable solutions
• Clear and effective communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders
• Experience with the Shopify, Personio, or Slack APIs is a plus
• Experience with BigQuery or other data warehouse solutions is an advantage
• Python skills and/or experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS) are a plus
• A basic understanding of e-commerce and operations processes is beneficial
