Overview
APEX 2027 offers up to £200,000 for established UK researchers pursuing interdisciplinary, curiosity-driven projects across academy remits.
Complete grant details
The 2027 APEX Awards are a partnership of the British Academy, Royal Academy of Engineering and Royal Society, supported by the Leverhulme Trust. Established independent researchers can request up to £200,000 for genuine interdisciplinary projects. Staff costs may support research assistants, undergraduate/Master’s students, PhD students and teaching replacement. Up to £10,000 for public-engagement activities can be included within the main application.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be established independent researchers with a strong track record, based at a UK university or not-for-profit research institution for at least the project duration. The proposed research must span the remit of more than one Academy, and applicants are expected to collaborate with a co-applicant from a different discipline or a different UK university.
Tips for this grant
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
