Job Description
What you'll bring
You are a software engineer with developing experience in backend development and a genuine interest in building AI-powered products. You bring strong communication skills, a collaborative approach, and the creative thinking and learning agility to adapt as the role evolves.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience with Python and backend development, including APIs and async programming, with a solid understanding of REST, distributed systems, and data modelling.
- Hands-on experience with LLM applications, RAG, tool calling, or agentic workflows - or clear evidence of self-directed learning, with exposure to frameworks such as FastAPI or LangGraph.
- Experience building and operating cloud-based applications or microservices, including Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, automated testing, and secure service integration.
- You follow AI's rapid evolution closely and apply AI-assisted tools and context engineering in your work - demonstrated through delivered projects, prototypes, research, or open-source contributions.
- A practical and accountable approach to AI - you apply AI-assisted tools, context engineering, and automation to build better solutions, while taking responsibility for the quality, safety, and alignment of AI-generated outputs.
- Fluency in English is required for this role.
What you'll build
You will build AI-powered systems used across SAP Globalization and beyond - from backend services and RAG pipelines to evaluation frameworks, all in production.
- Design, implement, test, and maintain AI-powered backend services, APIs, and agent tools using Python, with attention to reliability, scalability, and observability.
- Build RAG systems and agentic workflows grounded in trusted enterprise knowledge, improving prompt design, retrieval quality, output handling, and user experience.
- Integrate AI capabilities with SAP Joule, ServiceNow, SAP BTP services, and other enterprise systems.
- Build and maintain automated tests, evaluation pipelines, and benchmarks to measure AI system quality and performance.
- Translate validated experiments and proof-of-concept work into production-ready capabilities, exploring emerging models, frameworks, and protocols along the way.
- Own features and modules end to end, collaborating with product managers, engineers, and domain specialists, while sharing technical knowledge to help other teams adopt AI-assisted engineering practices.
Where you belong
You'll join SAPGLO E-Invoicing Localization, part of SAP Globalization AI - a global team across 40 locations building AI agents, intelligent tools, and the cloud infrastructure to scale them. The current focus is on applying AI to coding, research, automation, and software design to accelerate compliant solutions for markets worldwide. Learning, coaching, and knowledge sharing are part of how the team runs. This is an active build phase - a good moment to shape how AI is adopted in enterprise localization at SAP.
