How to apply

Follow the steps below to prepare your application. You can submit your application anytime, but if you’re applying for a competitive scholarship, make sure you know the closing date.

Applications will be closed if they:

  • do not meet UTS English language requirements*

  • do not include evidence of agreed supervision

  • are missing required documents (including correctly certified documents) at the time of application

The UTS Graduate Research School (GRS) will not follow up on missing or incorrectly certified documents.

Applications submitted after the scholarship application closing date will not be considered for the UTS competitive scholarship, but may be assessed for candidature.

*Please note: International applicants: the Medium of Instruction (MoI) option is not accepted for qualifications from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan.

Step 1: Find Your Research Topic

  • Check whether your faculty has pre-admission requirements.

  • Learn more about writing your research proposal.

Step 2: Prepare Your Application

Submitting your application is easier if you’ve prepared everything in advance.

  • Check application closing dates.

  • Write your research proposal.

  • Prepare your documents.

What To Expect In The Application Form

If you have prepared your documents, the application form will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

In the application form, you’ll be asked to provide the following proof:

  • eligibility criteria

  • English language requirements*

  • confirmed funding or that you can financially support yourself

  • completed pre-admission requirements

evidence of supervisory agreement, and

  • identity/citizenship.

You’ll also be asked if:

  • you are represented by a UTS authorised agent

  • you would like to be considered for a UTS competitive scholarship, and

  • you have an existing relationship or affiliation with UTS.

Once you register an account for the UTS Student Portal, you can save and complete your application at any time.

*Please note that the Medium of Instruction (MoI) option is not accepted for qualifications from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan. Applicants with qualifications from these countries will need to provide a valid IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or UTS College Academic English score.

How To Submit Your Application

  • Use Google Chrome as your internet browser.

  • Register a Future Student account in the UTS Student Portal.

  • Activate your account by clicking the link in the verification email.

  • Set up multifactor authentication when prompted.

  • Once you’re logged in, select Apply for a course.

  • Choose Higher degree research.

  • Follow the prompts to complete your application and submit all documents.

After You Apply

We’ll send you an email to confirm that we’ve received your application.

How We’ll Notify You Of The Outcome

You’ll receive an email confirming the outcome of your application. While this process usually takes 12 weeks, factors out of our control may delay a decision.

Successful Applications

If your application has been successful, you’ll receive a letter of offer via email. It will include:

  • your suggested start date

  • your UTS student number

  • your scholarship status, if applicable, and

  • information on how to accept your offer.

Upon accepting your offer, we will provide you with a confirmation of enrolment (CoE) so you can apply for a student visa in the Postgraduate Research Sector for the full duration of your course.
