Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Associate Director, Compliance Training based in the United States. The Associate Director, Compliance Training will lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of compliance learning programs supporting US commercial operations in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. This senior individual contributor role translates complex legal, regulatory, and policy requirements into practical, engaging, risk-based training. Working closely with Legal, Compliance, Sales, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Learning & Development teams, you will strengthen ethical decision-making and promote a culture of accountability. You will oversee training curricula, onboarding, product launch readiness, learning management systems, and effectiveness reporting. The role offers an opportunity to influence compliance practices across a growing organization while staying responsive to evolving healthcare regulations and industry standards. Domestic travel of approximately 10–15% is expected.

Lead the US commercial compliance training program, including annual training plans, curriculum roadmaps, and training calendars aligned with compliance risk assessments and priorities. Design and develop engaging, role-specific learning materials, including eLearning, instructor-led sessions, microlearning, case studies, job aids, certifications, and interactive scenarios. Create training on healthcare compliance topics such as healthcare professional interactions, promotional communications, off-label discussions, speaker programs, meals and engagements, grants and sponsorships, patient support programs, anti-kickback requirements, transparency reporting, privacy, and patient advocacy relationships. Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to deliver effective training for field sales, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Marketing, and home-office teams. Lead compliance onboarding for new commercial employees and deliver launch-readiness training for new products, indications, and field force expansions. Facilitate training at national and regional sales meetings, POA meetings, and cross-functional forums, while providing train-the-trainer support to commercial learning partners. Translate changes in laws, regulations, internal policies, standard operating procedures, enforcement trends, and industry guidance into timely training and communications. Manage compliance training content and administration within a learning management system (LMS), including audience mapping, curriculum assignments, deadlines, escalations, completion tracking, reporting, and system enhancements in partnership with Learning & Development and HRIS. Establish and monitor training KPIs, including completion rates, assessment results, knowledge checks, and effectiveness measures; report outcomes to Compliance leadership and the Compliance Committee while maintaining audit-ready documentation. Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align training with business needs and incorporate monitoring, audit, and investigation insights into targeted remediation efforts. Manage external training vendors and instructional design agencies, including project scopes, statements of work, budgets, timelines, quality reviews, and legal, regulatory, and compliance approvals. Develop awareness campaigns and communications, such as newsletters, Compliance Week initiatives, FAQs, and quick-reference guides, that reinforce ethical decision-making and a speak-up culture. Continuously assess program effectiveness, benchmark industry best practices, explore emerging learning technologies, and adapt responsibilities as organizational needs and regulatory expectations evolve. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required. At least 8 years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, including a minimum of 5 years in healthcare compliance, compliance training, or commercial training with a significant compliance component. Demonstrated experience building and managing compliance training programs for US commercial operations, including field sales and product launch environments. Strong working knowledge of US healthcare laws and industry standards, including the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FDCA), FDA promotional regulations, the federal Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Office of Inspector General (OIG) compliance guidance, PhRMA Code on Interactions with Health Care Professionals, and Sunshine Act/Open Payments requirements. Expertise in instructional design and adult learning principles, with experience using eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, or Adobe Captivate. Hands-on experience administering training content and generating reports through an LMS. Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage audiences ranging from field representatives to senior leadership. Strong written communication skills and the ability to turn complex legal and regulatory concepts into clear, actionable guidance. Proven ability to lead through influence, manage multiple projects under tight deadlines, and collaborate effectively across functions without direct authority. High integrity, sound judgment, discretion, adaptability, and the ability to handle sensitive information. Willingness and ability to travel domestically approximately 10–15% of the time. Preferred qualifications: An advanced degree, such as an MBA or M.Ed., or a relevant professional certification, such as CCEP, CHC, CPTD, or an instructional design certification. Experience supporting oncology or specialty pharmaceutical product launches. Experience working in an organization operating under a Corporate Integrity Agreement (CIA), or using processes informed by one. Familiarity with LMS platforms such as Workday Learning, Cornerstone, or SuccessFactors. Experience with learning analytics and methods for measuring training effectiveness. Working knowledge of state marketing and transparency laws, state price transparency requirements, HIPAA, and compliance requirements for patient support programs. Experience developing video-based, gamified, or scenario-driven interactive learning experiences. Benefits: Base salary range of $177,000–$221,000 USD for candidates working onsite at the Redwood City, California headquarters; compensation may be adjusted according to the candidate’s location and local market. Competitive cash compensation and robust equity awards as part of the overall rewards package. Comprehensive benefits, with specific coverage details not provided in the source description.
