The Associate Director, Development will play a key role in strengthening fundraising operations and ensuring the quality of donor-facing communications across Africa. This leadership position combines strategic pipeline management, exceptional writing and editing, donor engagement, and team development within a mission-driven global health organization. You will oversee proposals, pitches, reports, and other fundraising deliverables, ensuring that every communication reflects program impact, financial accuracy, and funder expectations. Working closely with program, finance, and communications teams, you will transform complex data into compelling narratives that build trust and support long-term partnerships. You will also mentor a small, culturally diverse team, contribute to global development strategy, and represent the organization in external engagements. This is an opportunity to help strengthen health systems and improve patient outcomes by supporting programs that empower family caregivers.
In this role, you will oversee the quality, coordination, and delivery of fundraising materials while supporting donor relationships and contributing to broader development priorities. You will combine strong project management with thoughtful leadership and cross-functional collaboration to ensure that fundraising communications consistently meet high standards. Pipeline and Deliverables Management: Manage the pipeline of proposals, pitches, reports, site visit itineraries, and other funder-facing deliverables, ensuring deadlines and donor requirements are consistently met. Review and refine all fundraising materials before submission to ensure accuracy, clarity, quality, and alignment with funder expectations. Establish and maintain systems, workflows, and timelines that give the Fundraising team clear visibility into upcoming deliverables and priorities. Ensure the team has reliable access to current impact results and financial data to support accurate, evidence-based donor communications. Content Development and Storytelling: Collaborate with program and finance teams to translate complex programmatic information, financial data, and outcomes into compelling narratives for donors and partners. Maintain high standards for writing quality, tone, consistency, and factual accuracy across all external communications. Develop and maintain templates, standard language, and best practices that improve efficiency and consistency across fundraising materials. External Representation and Funder Engagement: Represent the organization at meetings, events, and funder engagements across Africa as needed. Support donor visits and engagement activities, including the coordination and planning of site visits. Conduct or support prospect research to identify potential funders and develop connections with new funding partners. Communicate the organization's mission, programs, and impact with credibility and professionalism in external settings. Team Management and Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead, mentor, and support a small team through regular feedback, coaching, and professional development. Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture across different geographies and cultural contexts. Work closely with program, finance, and communications teams to gather the information and materials required for effective donor-facing content. Contribute to global development strategy, fundraising messaging, and organizational priorities. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced development or fundraising professional with outstanding writing and editing abilities, strong operational discipline, and the emotional intelligence to lead a diverse team. You should be comfortable managing complex deliverables, working with data, and building trusted relationships with international funders and internal stakeholders. Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree is preferred. At least 12 years of experience in development, fundraising, or communications, including demonstrated success managing complex deliverables, multiple stakeholders, and competing deadlines. Experience managing or mentoring a team, ideally across different geographies or cultural contexts. Experience working with international donors, foundations, or institutional funders. Exceptional writing and editing skills, with meticulous attention to detail, clarity, and accuracy. Ability to transform complex programmatic and financial information into clear, persuasive, and evidence-based narratives. Strong project management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple deliverables, stakeholders, and deadlines simultaneously. High emotional and relational intelligence, with the ability to build trust, provide thoughtful feedback, and lead a cross-cultural team with sensitivity. Confidence working with data and collaborating with program and finance teams to ensure the integrity of information used in fundraising materials. Proficiency in Google Workspace and experience using Salesforce or a similar customer relationship management (CRM) platform. Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required. Deep commitment to improving health outcomes and supporting the communities served by the organization's programs. High integrity, professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment. Self-motivation, resourcefulness, and the ability to work effectively in environments where priorities or circumstances may be ambiguous. Cultural sensitivity, curiosity, and a collaborative approach, combined with the confidence to uphold high standards of quality. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and respect for people from different backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. Benefits: Opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization focused on improving health outcomes and strengthening health systems. A leadership role with meaningful responsibility for fundraising quality, donor engagement, and team development. Opportunities to collaborate with international funders and multidisciplinary teams across diverse cultural contexts. Scope to contribute to global development strategy and support programs with measurable social impact. A workplace culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and different perspectives.
