Full Job Description

ASSOCIATE WEALTH MANAGER

Family Office Practice, Boutique Multi-Family Office.

Location: Melrose Arch, Johannesburg

Reports To: Director / Head of Client Advisory

Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Experience: 3 – 5 Years

ABOUT THE FIRM

The firm is a boutique multi-family office based in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, providing investment management and comprehensive family office services to a select client base of high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth families.

The firm operates across domestic and international markets, with established relationships across leading global asset managers and specialist advisors. Its investment capability is rigorous, process-driven, and built on decades of institutional expertise. The firm has maintained exceptional client retention throughout its history — a reflection of the depth of trust earned and the consistency of service delivered.

The practice is growing, and this role is part of that expansion. Those who join at this stage will work closely with and report directly to a Director with over two decades of experience in South African wealth management and family office service delivery.

THE ROLE

The Associate Wealth Manager (AWM) is the primary client contact for an allocated panel of family office clients. The AWM owns the full advice delivery pipeline for their panel: meeting preparation, attendance at client meetings alongside the Wealth Manager, minutes, action management, and proposals.

The AWM is who clients contact between meetings. They are responsible for ensuring that every commitment made in a client review is followed through completely and on time. Over time, the AWM takes on increasing ownership of proposals, CGT calculations, and tax planning for their client panel.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Meetings & Minutes

  • Attend all client review meetings alongside the Wealth Manager
  • Produce structured meeting minutes within 24 hours, with every action item named, owned, and dated
  • Own the complete action register for the client panel and maintain full visibility of all outstanding items at all times
  • Manage all meeting logistics: scheduling, client pre-reading, and correspondence before and after

Action Ownership & Client Services

  • Instruct the Client Services team on all implementation tasks arising from client meetings
  • Follow up on all delegated actions and maintain accountability for their completion
  • Serve as the single point of client contact for all service matters on the panel

Proposals, Tax Planning & Family Office Work

  • Responsible for client proposals for the panel, working initially alongside the Investment Specialist and building toward full ownership over time
  • Manage provisional tax planning for clients in coordination with external tax practitioners
  • Own CGT calculations for proposals
  • First point of contact for family office matters including property, estates, trusts, offshore structures, and insurance; the AWM coordinates, sources expert input, and drives resolution

Client Relationship Management

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of each client's family structure, financial circumstances, preferences, and upcoming life events
  • Maintain complete and current client records in the practice management system
  • Ensure no client on the panel exceeds their designated review cadence
  • Set up and schedule all client reviews independently, without prompting from the Wealth Manager

Requirements

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

The following are considered essential:

  • 3 to 5 years in wealth management, private banking, or a family office
  • CFP qualification, or demonstrably in progress with a clear completion timeline
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a client panel independently
  • Strong written communication across minutes, proposals, and client correspondence
  • XPlan or comparable CRM and practice management experience
  • Competency in CGT calculations and provisional tax processes
  • Familiarity with leading South African investment platforms
  • High attention to detail and sound critical thinking
  • Emotional intelligence and sound judgement in client situations
  • A strong sense of urgency and personal accountability
