Complete scholarship details

Deadline: January 11, 2027

Applications are open for the Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity (AFSEE) Programme 2027-2028 . Policymakers, researchers, activists, practitioners, artists, and movement-builders from around the world are invited to apply to the innovative, fully-funded, and inequalities-focused fellowship programme based at the International Inequalities Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Currently recruiting for its eleventh cohort, the AFSEE Fellowship is aimed at mid-career social-change leaders who have at least seven years of experience in challenging inequalities. Applications are accepted from individuals working on any field of social and economic equity, including, but not limited to economic and social rights; sustainability and environmental justice; tax justice and economic alternatives; women’s, minority, and disability rights; rights to education; public policy; housing and urban inequalities; labour rights; community organising; arts and culture; and peacebuilding and transitional justice.

Launched in 2016, the AFSEE Programme celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2026-2027; working towards its aim to build a 400-strong inspiring community of Fellows over two decades. In its first ten cohorts, the programme has brought together over 160 change-makers from 60 countries across the globe.

Eligibility

Residential Fellows

Applicants must qualify for admission to the London School of Economics’ MSc in Inequalities and Social Science. These requirements include a 2:1 degree or equivalent in any discipline. A background in social science and/or work experience in the social policy field are advantageous but not essential.

Applicants must meet LSE’s English Language Requirement. The English language requirement for this track is Higher.

Applicants must have at least 7 years of experience demonstrating courage, care, leadership and commitment in advancing equitable solutions to inequality.

Note: Applicants who have attained a PhD, who have completed a master’s degree within the past three years, or who are currently studying for a degree, will not normally be considered for the Residential track.

Non-Residential Fellows

Applicants must meet LSE’s English Language Requirement. The English language requirement for this track is Standard.

Applicants must have at least 7 years of experience demonstrating courage, care, leadership and commitment in advancing equitable solutions to inequality.

Note: For the Non-Residential track, they aim to be inclusive and to encourage applications from non-traditional applicants. They therefore welcome applications from both those applicants who hold an undergraduate degree (2:2 and above) and to those who do not hold an undergraduate degree. This track is also open to applicants who already hold postgraduate degrees. Applicants currently enrolled in a degree programme will not be considered unless their course of study ends before the Fellowship year begins in September.

Preferred Qualities

They are especially keen to support applicants who meet at least one of the following criteria:

Candidates who live in the Global South (although this factor will never be considered in isolation).

Candidates who come from marginalised and/or historically underrepresented groups such as Black, Latinx/o/a/e, Indigenous, Asian, Arab, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, refugee, biracial, multiracial, female-identifying, the disability community, LGBTQIA+ etc.

Candidates who do not otherwise have the resources to finance their participation in activities such as the AFSEE Fellowship and/or have not already had significant access to fellowships or scholarships.

Application

Applications for the 2027-28 Cohort will close at 5.00pm GMT on 11 January 2027. Late applications will not be accepted.

Tips for this scholarship

Practical JobOpportunity guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
  2. Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
  3. Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
  4. Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
