The Atsumi International Foundation is accepting direct applications for its 2027 scholarship from eligible Japanese and international doctoral students at graduate schools in designated Kanto or Kinki prefectures.

Applications are open from 1 September through 20 September 2026. The scholarship pays JPY 250,000 per month for one year, either April 2027–March 2028 or September 2027–August 2028. The 2027 call plans 18 recipients, with a limit of five recipients from the same country or region of origin.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral course in an eligible Kanto or Kinki graduate school and expect to obtain the doctorate by March 2028, or September 2028 for autumn-entry students. Applicants must be proficient in Japanese, participate actively in the foundation's exchange activities, and meet the current restrictions on full-time employment and overlapping scholarships.
