Full job description
The Clinton School of Public Service at the University of Arkansas is accepting applications from organizations interested in hosting students for the International Public Service Projects (IPSP) Summer 2027 program. This initiative connects Master of Public Service students with international organizations and U.S.-based organizations working on global issues to address real-world challenges through research, program development, and community-focused projects. Applications for host organizations open on October 1, 2026, and the final deadline to submit project proposals is December 1, 2026. Selected projects will provide organizations with an opportunity to collaborate with graduate students who bring academic knowledge, analytical skills, and a commitment to public service. About the International Public Service Projects (IPSP) The International Public Service Project is an intensive, eight-week field experience that allows Master of Public Service students to apply their classroom learning in practical settings. The program is scheduled to run from May 24 to July 27, 2027. Through this initiative, students collaborate with host organizations to conduct research, assess community needs, evaluate existing programs, and develop strategies that strengthen organizational capacity. The projects are designed around the specific priorities of participating organizations and the communities they serve. The IPSP also provides students with valuable international exposure, professional experience, and opportunities to develop cross-cultural communication and problem-solving skills. Project Areas and Opportunities Organizations can propose projects that address their operational needs, strategic priorities, and community development goals. Potential project areas include:
Program Design and Toolkit Development: Creating practical resources, implementation frameworks, and tools to improve programs. Research and Best Practices Analysis: Conducting empirical research and identifying effective approaches to public service challenges. Needs Assessments: Identifying community priorities, service gaps, and opportunities for improvement. Program Evaluation: Assessing program performance, outcomes, and potential areas for development. Strategic Planning: Developing actionable plans to support organizational growth and long-term sustainability. Community Outreach: Strengthening stakeholder engagement and communication with local communities.
Projects should be based on clearly identified organizational needs and offer meaningful opportunities for students to contribute to public service initiatives. Benefits for Host Organizations Participating organizations can benefit from collaboration with graduate students who bring research capabilities, analytical perspectives, and fresh ideas. The projects can help organizations improve their programs, strengthen internal systems, develop evidence-based strategies, and identify solutions to pressing social challenges. The IPSP is particularly relevant for nonprofit organizations, international development agencies, community-based organizations, and institutions working in areas such as education, public health, economic development, sustainability, and social impact. Host Organization Requirements Organizations selected to host an IPSP student must be prepared to support the placement throughout the project period. Host organizations are expected to:
Accommodate the placement dates from May 24 to July 27, 2027. Assign a dedicated staff supervisor to guide the student. Provide an appropriate on-site workspace. Offer an orientation introducing the student to the organization, project, and community. Complete a brief final assessment of the student and project outcomes.
Organizations should develop proposals that clearly explain their project objectives, expected deliverables, and the skills or expertise that would be useful for the assignment. Application Timeline
October 1, 2026: Applications open for host organizations. December 1, 2026: Final deadline for project proposals. Mid-February 2027: Final student-project matches are expected to be confirmed. May 24 – July 27, 2027: International Public Service Projects take place.
