CNPq and the European Research Council will support up to 10 projects involving doctorate-level researchers in Brazil collaborating with eligible ERC-funded European projects. Each proposal may request up to R$200,000 in CNPq DES overseas fellowships; the call reports a total budget of up to R$2 million. DES fellowship benefits include monthly payments under CNPq's overseas table, travel, installation support, health insurance and high-cost-location supplement where applicable. Each overseas fellowship can run 1–12 months and the project can run up to 24 months; fellowships must be implemented between January and December 2027. A prior expression of interest is mandatory to receive the list of ERC projects willing to host Brazilian collaborators. Applications opened 3 August 2026 and close 30 September 2026 at 23:59 Brasília time.
Eligibility requirements
The Brazilian project lead must be Brazilian or a foreign national with regular migratory status in Brazil, hold a doctorate, maintain an updated Lattes CV, coordinate the proposal and normally hold an employment/statutory link with the Brazilian executing institution (or satisfy the retired-researcher exception). The proposal must include proof of acceptance by an eligible ERC-funded project, and named fellowship beneficiaries must satisfy the DES rules.
