Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Community Moderator (External Contractor) based in India. The Community Moderator will help create a welcoming, engaging, and supportive online learning environment for students participating in scholarship programmes. In this part-time, remote contractor role, you will work closely with Community Managers to maintain healthy discussions, uphold community guidelines, and encourage meaningful learner interactions. You will monitor online forums daily, respond to non-technical student enquiries, and help ensure that community members feel supported throughout their learning journey. The role also involves identifying opportunities to improve engagement, supporting community activities, and contributing to performance reporting when needed. You will collaborate with an international team in a dynamic digital education environment focused on technology skills and professional development. This opportunity is ideal for a proactive, student-oriented individual seeking flexible additional income while contributing to a global learning community.
Monitor online learning forums and scholarship communities at least twice daily, including weekends, ideally once in the morning and once in the evening, to maintain an active and supportive environment. Provide non-technical assistance to students by answering routine questions, sharing relevant information, and directing learners to appropriate resources or support channels when necessary. Moderate community discussions, review reported or inappropriate posts, enforce community guidelines, and take appropriate action to maintain respectful and constructive interactions. Organize and maintain online community spaces, using moderation tools and platform features to support clear communication, accessibility, and positive learner experiences. Collaborate with Community Managers to plan and support forum activities, brainstorm engagement initiatives, and encourage participation among students. Help foster an inclusive, friendly, and engaging learning environment where students can connect, exchange ideas, and remain motivated throughout their programmes. Prepare or contribute to community performance summaries and activity reports when requested, highlighting relevant trends, recurring issues, and engagement opportunities. Attend regular online meetings with representatives and remain responsive in team discussions to communicate updates, raise concerns, and coordinate moderation activities. Identify and report potential community issues, student concerns, or guideline violations promptly, escalating situations when appropriate. Adapt moderation schedules to community needs, including evening and weekend coverage, while maintaining consistent communication and reliable daily monitoring. Requirements: Must currently reside in India and have a reliable internet connection suitable for daily online moderation and remote collaboration. Previous experience in community moderation, online forum management, customer support, student engagement, or a similar role is beneficial. Experience working with online learning communities is an advantage. Completion of an online course or Nanodegree programme through the relevant learning platform is a plus, as is familiarity with its educational services, target audience, and community culture. Good understanding of online communities and moderation practices, including forum management, comment moderation, content management tools, and the application of community guidelines. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to share information clearly, respond professionally, and report issues accurately. A customer-focused and student-oriented mindset, with an understanding of learner needs and a genuine interest in helping students navigate their learning experience. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with a proactive approach to managing daily monitoring tasks, competing priorities, and community requests. Ability to remain calm under pressure, exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive discussions, and escalate challenging situations appropriately. Availability to monitor the community across different times of day, including evenings and weekends, with a commitment to checking the platform at least twice daily. Flexibility to undertake a part-time external contractor assignment alongside existing professional commitments, provided the required availability and responsibilities can be maintained. Willingness to participate in regular online meetings, collaborate with distributed teams, and respond promptly to communications from community stakeholders. Self-motivation, reliability, attention to detail, and a collaborative attitude, with a commitment to maintaining a positive and productive online learning environment. Benefits: Remote work: Perform your responsibilities from the comfort of your home in India. Additional income: Earn extra income through a part-time external contractor opportunity that may complement existing professional commitments. Flexible working arrangement: Manage moderation activities remotely, with the flexibility to balance the assignment alongside other work, subject to daily monitoring and weekend availability requirements. Global community engagement: Contribute to a diverse, international community of learners and help students progress toward their educational goals. Technology exposure: Stay connected with developments in emerging technology fields, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, cloud computing, and other digital skills. Professional development: Gain practical experience in online community management, learner support, digital engagement, and moderation practices. Collaborative environment: Work alongside Community Managers and other stakeholders, with opportunities to exchange ideas and contribute to community improvement initiatives. Selection process: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a short assessment and submit a brief video introduction as part of the recruitment process.
