Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Compensation Consultant based in the United States. Role Overview The Compensation Consultant will partner with a diverse portfolio of clients to develop effective, data-driven compensation strategies that support organizational goals and employee success. This role combines analytical expertise, strategic thinking, and client relationship management to transform complex compensation data into actionable business recommendations. You will conduct salary benchmarking, design pay structures, assess internal equity, and develop compensation models tailored to each client's needs. Working collaboratively with business leaders and HR professionals, you will help organizations align their compensation practices with their culture, values, and long-term objectives. This opportunity offers the flexibility to work remotely, manage your workload, and support multiple clients while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. You will join a collaborative, people-focused team that values knowledge sharing, professional growth, and meaningful client impact.

Analyze compensation data, conduct job matching, and perform market benchmarking to help clients develop competitive and equitable compensation practices. Design and evaluate salary structures, pay ranges, and compensation frameworks aligned with market conditions, organizational objectives, and internal equity considerations. Conduct internal compensation equity reviews to identify potential inconsistencies, assess pay positioning, and recommend appropriate adjustments. Perform compensation modeling, data manipulation, cost analysis, and scenario planning to support informed decision-making and strategic workforce planning. Translate complex quantitative findings into clear, practical recommendations that business leaders can understand and implement. Advise clients on compensation philosophy, helping them define and implement strategies that reflect their organizational culture, values, talent priorities, and financial objectives. Develop tailored compensation solutions that address each client's unique business needs rather than relying on standardized approaches. Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional communication, active listening, thoughtful guidance, and a collaborative consulting approach. Facilitate discussions among stakeholders with differing perspectives, helping them reach consensus on compensation priorities and implementation strategies. Collaborate with fellow HR professionals and consulting team members to share expertise, solve complex challenges, and deliver high-quality client outcomes. Manage multiple client engagements and project priorities effectively while maintaining analytical accuracy, professional standards, and timely deliverables. Contribute to a supportive, team-oriented environment that encourages continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and flexible ways of working. Requirements Demonstrated professional experience in compensation, total rewards, HR consulting, or a related field, with practical expertise in compensation analysis and program design. Strong experience conducting salary benchmarking, job matching, market pricing, pay range development, and internal compensation equity assessments. Proficiency in compensation data analysis, spreadsheet-based modeling, data manipulation, and cost projections, with the ability to interpret findings and develop actionable recommendations. A solid understanding of compensation philosophies, market positioning, pay structures, and the relationship between compensation practices, organizational culture, and business strategy. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to identify patterns, assess complex information, and solve compensation challenges using a data-driven approach. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical findings clearly and professionally to clients, HR teams, and business leaders. Demonstrated client service and relationship-building capabilities, with the confidence to facilitate discussions, manage differing viewpoints, and establish trust with stakeholders. A proactive, strategic, and solution-oriented mindset, combined with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities. Ability to work independently in a remote environment while contributing effectively to a collaborative team of HR and compensation professionals. Flexibility and adaptability to support clients across different industries, organizational sizes, and compensation needs. A commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, professionalism, and continuous improvement in compensation consulting practices. Relevant education, professional certifications, or additional training in human resources, compensation, finance, analytics, or a related discipline may be beneficial. Benefits Competitive hourly pay: $50–$55 per hour for candidates meeting the position's minimum requirements in the San Francisco Bay Area. Compensation varies according to experience, certifications, skills, and geographic location. Location-based compensation: Candidates outside the San Francisco Bay Area, or those whose qualifications differ from the stated requirements, may receive a tailored compensation range. Remote work: Work from the comfort of your home, with scheduled virtual client meetings and limited travel. Flexible schedule: Choose your working hours and adjust your workload according to your availability and client commitments. Part-time flexibility: Manage the number of hours you work and the clients you support, with the opportunity for workload fluctuations. Healthcare benefits: Employees working at least 30 hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits. Paid time off: Eligible employees working at least 30 hours per week can access paid holidays and paid time off. Work-life balance: A flexible working environment designed to respect personal priorities and support a sustainable professional lifestyle. Collaborative team culture: Work alongside experienced HR professionals with diverse backgrounds who share knowledge, provide support, and collaborate on client challenges. Professional development: Opportunities to broaden compensation expertise, work with varied clients, and strengthen strategic consulting and analytical capabilities.
