Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Compliance Officer (Regulatory Focus), Cryptoasset Regulation based in Netherlands. As a Compliance Officer specializing in cryptoasset regulation, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing regulatory frameworks across the evolving digital asset and fintech landscape. You will oversee key regulatory initiatives involving European cryptoasset legislation, UK authorization requirements, and post-licensing compliance obligations. Working closely with senior compliance leadership, you will develop robust policies, risk assessments, governance documentation, and regulatory submissions that stand up to supervisory scrutiny. You will also contribute to the design of Travel Rule frameworks, blockchain analytics controls, and ICT risk documentation. This remote-first opportunity offers significant autonomy, direct exposure to regulators, and close collaboration with experienced compliance and technology professionals. Join a growing international team where your expertise will directly influence regulatory readiness, operational resilience, and the future of cryptoasset services.
Manage the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) cryptoasset regulatory application process, including requests for information, supplementary submissions, remediation activities, and preparations for the transition to the forthcoming UK FSMA cryptoasset authorization regime. Lead the post-authorization implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license, ensuring regulatory obligations and commitments to the relevant national competent authority are implemented, documented, and evidenced effectively. Develop, maintain, and review regulatory policies and governance documentation covering conflicts of interest, complaints handling, custody and client-asset segregation, market abuse detection and reporting, prudential safeguards, outsourcing, and applicable cryptoasset white-paper obligations. Design and document the regulatory framework for the Transfer of Funds Regulation (TFR) and Travel Rule, covering originator and beneficiary information, self-hosted wallets, and counterparty CASP due diligence. Establish and document blockchain analytics control frameworks, including methodologies, risk thresholds, and exposure attribution, working with the relevant operational teams while maintaining clear regulatory oversight. Coordinate with the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) function on Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) documentation and ICT risk requirements applicable to cryptoasset services. Conduct regulatory assessments of new cryptoassets, blockchain networks, custody models, and cryptoasset counterparties to identify risks and determine applicable compliance requirements. Perform regulatory gap analyses, thematic reviews, and control assessments, developing remediation plans and verifying that approved measures operate effectively in practice. Independently draft substantive regulatory submissions, policies, risk assessments, governance documents, application narratives, and responses to regulatory inquiries. Monitor relevant legislative and regulatory developments, interpret primary legislation and supervisory guidance, and translate mandatory requirements into practical compliance frameworks. Requirements At least 5 years of experience in regulatory compliance, particularly authorization, licensing, policy development, and governance documentation, including at least 3 years working within a cryptoasset business licensed or authorized by a national competent authority. Experience limited to unregulated, registration-only, or offshore operators does not satisfy this requirement. Demonstrated hands-on experience with a cryptoasset authorization framework, such as MiCA/CASP, UK FCA cryptoasset registration or authorization, or a comparable Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) regime, including taking applications through submission and regulatory review. A proven track record of independently drafting substantial regulatory documentation, with the ability to explain which documents you authored, the regulators involved, and the feedback or challenges received during the review process. Practical working knowledge of the TFR and Travel Rule, including their application to cryptoasset transfers and the handling of relevant originator, beneficiary, and counterparty information. Practical understanding of blockchain analytics, including risk assessment methodologies, exposure attribution, and how analytical findings and controls are evidenced to regulators. Working knowledge of DORA as it applies to CASPs, alongside AMLD requirements, Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards, sanctions compliance, outsourcing arrangements, and governance obligations. Strong ability to interpret primary legislation and regulatory guidance independently, distinguish binding legal obligations from internal risk appetite decisions, and translate complex requirements into defensible regulatory positions. Excellent written and verbal professional English, with advanced regulatory drafting skills and the ability to communicate complex legal and technical topics clearly. Based in Europe, with availability for at least four hours of overlap with the European working day. A high degree of autonomy, attention to detail, critical thinking, and sound professional judgment, combined with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams. Nice to have: Experience securing regulatory authorization through an application you personally drafted. Experience transitioning from a VASP framework to a CASP authorization under MiCA. Awareness of the transition to the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) and the evolving Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) framework. Experience with a formally authorized and supervised VASP/CASP regime outside the EU, such as in the Crown Dependencies, Switzerland, Singapore, or Hong Kong. A relevant professional qualification, such as the ICA Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC), Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), or an equivalent credential. Benefits Remote-first working environment offering significant autonomy, flexibility, and minimal micromanagement. Direct collaboration with the Global Chief of Compliance and senior leadership, providing visibility and influence over key regulatory decisions. Opportunity to work on a complex and high-impact regulatory portfolio spanning MiCA CASP requirements, EU payment institution regulation, and UK cryptoasset authorization initiatives. Meaningful ownership of regulatory documentation and submissions, with work directly informing communications with supervisory authorities. Stable, self-funded business environment without external investor pressure. Medical insurance to support your health and well-being. Dedicated learning and development budget to support continuous professional growth. Performance-based financial bonus linked to results. English language classes to strengthen communication skills in an international environment. Regular team-building activities that encourage collaboration and connection across a distributed workforce. Exposure to the technically sophisticated and rapidly evolving intersection of financial services, cryptocurrency, regulation, and compliance. Opportunity to contribute to a growing global compliance function where senior expertise, independent judgment, and regulatory knowledge are valued.
