Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Consulting Manager based in Canada. Role Overview The Consulting Manager will lead complex software implementation projects for utility and municipal clients, overseeing delivery from initial planning through go-live and post-launch stabilization. This role combines strategic project oversight, technical solution guidance, and people leadership to ensure successful customer information system (CIS) implementations. You will manage and mentor consulting teams, optimize resource allocation, and drive consistent, high-quality project outcomes across multiple engagements. Working closely with clients, project managers, and cross-functional teams, you will strengthen relationships, manage delivery risks, and maintain control over budgets and timelines. You will also help improve implementation methodologies, promote knowledge sharing, and support continuous professional development. With a strong focus on operational efficiency, you will leverage AI-powered tools and modern workflows to streamline delivery and enhance customer satisfaction. This remote opportunity offers significant ownership, international collaboration, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on essential utility and public-sector services.

Team Leadership and Development: Lead, coach, and mentor Application Consultants across different experience levels, supporting their professional growth, performance, and ability to deliver successful implementations. Allocate resources across concurrent projects, optimize utilization and billable capacity, and maintain a sustainable workload during critical delivery periods. Implementation Strategy and Execution: Oversee multiple customer information system implementations, ensuring consistent application of standardized delivery frameworks, industry templates, and training-focused adoption practices. Guide complex implementations, greenfield projects, custom modifications, and deployments involving new utility types, regulatory environments, or integrations. Solution Architecture and Technical Oversight: Review and validate solution designs, system configurations, integration strategies, and data conversion approaches. Ensure solutions align with client requirements and business objectives across customer self-service portals, mobile workforce management, financial systems, advanced metering infrastructure, meter data management, and interactive voice response platforms. Methodology and Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve implementation methodologies, documentation, and delivery standards. Collaborate with senior leadership to implement improvements, train consulting teams, facilitate client workshops, and ensure effective transitions from sales to professional services and from implementation to customer support. Financial and Project Performance Management: Establish and manage project budgets, cost estimates, resource allocations, and financial forecasts. Monitor milestones, project health, go-live schedules, budget variances, and estimates to complete, working with finance teams to maintain accurate reporting and financial accountability. Client Relationship and Escalation Management: Build trusted relationships with utility and municipal customers, including executive sponsors and steering committees. Provide transparent progress updates, identify potential delivery risks, develop mitigation plans, manage change controls, and resolve escalations involving data migration, integrations, billing configurations, or regulatory requirements. Knowledge Sharing and Training: Apply experience from diverse implementation projects to solve complex delivery challenges. Organize and deliver internal training, share best practices, support consultant development, and contribute to industry user conferences and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Operational Modernization and AI Adoption: Introduce AI-assisted tools and automation to streamline administrative work, including statements of work, status reports, test documentation, meeting summaries, and financial variance analysis. Establish repeatable processes and standards that improve team productivity and allow consultants to focus on strategic delivery and client relationships. Requirements Professional Experience: At least 5 years of experience in professional services, consulting, or software implementation, ideally within utility or municipal technology, customer information systems, billing platforms, customer service solutions, or related ERP/EAM environments. Leadership Experience: At least 4 years in a senior or managing consultant role, with experience across four or more complex CIS implementations or more than 20 successful upgrades, or at least 2 years of formal people-management experience for candidates following a leadership-focused career path. Implementation Management: Demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent software implementation projects for utility or municipal clients, with the ability to oversee delivery from planning through deployment and stabilization. Industry Knowledge: Working knowledge of the utility customer-to-cash lifecycle, including metering, billing, collections, and customer service, and familiarity with public-sector implementation environments. Financial Acumen: Experience managing project budgets, forecasting, profit and loss considerations, consultant utilization, resource allocation, and contractual scope. Technical and Methodological Skills: Practical knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid implementation methodologies, along with experience using project management, professional services automation, testing, and reporting tools such as Jira, CayStone, SpiraTest, ServiceNow, Power BI, and Excel. Communication and Relationship Management: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, manage executive-level client relationships, facilitate workshops, and coordinate effectively across technical and business teams. Problem-Solving and Organization: Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, proactive risk management, and the ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining delivery quality and customer satisfaction. AI and Innovation Mindset: Curiosity about emerging technologies and a willingness to adopt AI assistants, copilots, and automation tools responsibly to improve workflows, reporting, and operational efficiency. Preferred Qualifications: Direct experience with Cayenta CIS or comparable utility and municipal platforms is an advantage. Familiarity with customer self-service portals, mobile workforce management, financial system integrations, AMI/MDM, IVR, and related third-party solutions is beneficial. Experience with modern AI productivity tools, such as Claude or Microsoft Copilot, is also valued. Benefits Competitive Compensation: Annual salary range of $90,000–$100,000 .
