Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Data Center Design Manager based in the United States. Join a cutting-edge infrastructure team responsible for designing and delivering the data centers that power large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) training and deployment. In this role, you will coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and external design partners to transform complex infrastructure requirements into reliable, buildable design solutions. You will oversee design execution from early planning through detailed engineering and construction support, ensuring alignment across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and network systems. Working closely with construction, commissioning, operations, and hardware specialists, you will help maintain design integrity throughout the project lifecycle. This is an opportunity to contribute to ambitious, high-performance computing infrastructure projects in a fast-paced, technically demanding environment. Your work will help improve reliability, accelerate deployment timelines, and establish scalable design standards for future infrastructure development.

Lead end-to-end design coordination: Manage design scope, deliverables, milestones, dependencies, and technical decisions from concept development through detailed design and construction support. Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering: Align civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, controls, and physical network interfaces across data center buildings and campuses. Translate technical requirements into design solutions: Work with engineering leads to convert owner requirements and hardware specifications into coordinated design criteria, identifying gaps and resolving competing priorities. Drive design reviews and technical issue resolution: Lead multidisciplinary reviews, document comments and decisions, track technical risks, and ensure outstanding issues are resolved before design packages are released. Manage design changes and risk: Evaluate proposed changes with engineering and delivery partners, clearly assessing their implications for reliability, safety, cost, schedule, and maintainability. Oversee external design partners: Coordinate architects, engineering consultants, developers, and equipment suppliers to maintain design quality, accountability, and delivery against agreed milestones. Support construction and commissioning: Partner with delivery teams to address constructability, sequencing, requests for information (RFIs), submittals, field issues, and design modifications. Strengthen design standards and handoffs: Maintain accurate technical documentation, coordinate project handover requirements, and incorporate construction and operational lessons into reusable standards and reference designs. Improve delivery consistency and scalability: Apply lessons learned and standardized design approaches across projects while adapting solutions to site-specific constraints and evolving infrastructure requirements. Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Relevant experience: Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary design for data centers, mission-critical facilities, or similarly complex infrastructure projects. Technical expertise: Strong understanding of data center infrastructure and the interfaces between power distribution, cooling systems, controls, structural components, and physical networks. Design delivery: Experience coordinating design packages from early planning through detailed design and construction support, with a strong understanding of technical deliverables and project milestones. Partner management: Proven ability to coordinate external design consultants, engineering specialists, equipment suppliers, and construction partners. Technical documentation: Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications, identify interface conflicts, and collaborate with discipline experts to develop effective solutions. Project coordination: Strong organizational skills, disciplined issue tracking, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining design quality and delivery timelines. Communication and judgment: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to facilitate technical discussions, document decisions, and balance engineering requirements against cost, schedule, safety, and operational constraints. Preferred infrastructure experience: Exposure to hyperscale data centers, high-density AI or high-performance computing (HPC) environments, or other rapidly evolving mission-critical facilities. Specialized technical knowledge: Familiarity with liquid cooling, high-density power distribution, and integrating changing compute hardware requirements into facility designs. Design quality and change management: Experience managing design reviews, quality assurance, technical change control, or multiple concurrent infrastructure projects. Modern delivery methods: Familiarity with modular or prefabricated infrastructure, building information modeling (BIM), model coordination, clash detection, and engineering document-control systems. Commissioning and operational readiness: Experience supporting commissioning preparation, as-built documentation, operational handoffs, or the development of reusable engineering standards. Additional credentials: Professional engineering or architecture licensure, or relevant design and project management certifications, is an advantage. Benefits Competitive compensation: Annual base salary ranging from $225,000 to $285,000 USD , depending on location, relevant experience, technical expertise, and qualifications. Equity and performance incentives: Equity compensation and performance-related bonuses for eligible employees, in addition to base salary. Comprehensive healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their families, with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Retirement savings: 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching. Flexible paid time off: Flexible paid time off for exempt employees, alongside paid sick or safe time in accordance with applicable requirements. Company holidays and breaks: More than 13 paid company holidays, plus coordinated company-wide closures throughout the year to support rest and recharging. Family and caregiver support: Paid parental leave of up to 24 weeks for birth parents and 20 weeks for non-birthing parents, as well as paid medical and caregiver leave of up to eight weeks. Financial and commuter benefits: Pre-tax accounts for healthcare, dependent care, and eligible commuting expenses. Wellbeing resources: Mental health and wellness support, along with employer-paid basic life and disability insurance. Professional development: Annual learning and development stipend to support continued growth and technical expertise. Additional perks: Daily meals at company offices, eligible meal delivery credits, relocation assistance for eligible employees, and potential charitable donation matching and wellness stipends. Remote work: Remote work opportunity within the United States, with compensation and benefits details discussed during the hiring process.
