Working closely with analysts, architects, engineers, and business stakeholders, the team develops the data foundations that support reporting, analytics, and organisational performance.We have a team culture that values the varied perspectives and skillsets that each team member brings - with respect as our central touchstone. About the role / Ō te tūrangaAs our Data Engineer you'll play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our organisation. Working closely with our Digital Information and Services team, you'll develop and support robust data pipelines, storage solutions, and data platforms that ensure information is reliable, accessible, and secure. You'll apply your technical expertise to enable the efficient flow and management of data, supporting reporting, analytics, and operational decision-making while helping to strengthen data quality, performance, and governance across the organisation. What You'll Do/ Ko tōu ake mahi Design, build and maintain data infrastructure, including pipelines and storage solutions, to support reliable, secure and accessible data across the organisation.Develop and optimise data pipelines for extraction, transformation and loading (ETL/ELT) to ensure efficient, scalable and reliable data processing and flow.Ensure data quality and integrity by implementation of validation, cleansing, reconciliation and error handling processes.Monitor and maintain data platforms to ensure performance, reliability, scalability, and operational stability of data systems.Support data governance, security and access controls to protect sensitive information and meet regulatory requirements. What You'll Bring / Ko ngā pukenga ōu Experience working with data storage solutions such as data warehouses and/or data lakes, including cloud-based platformsDemonstrated experience developing and optimising ETL/ELT processes to support data availability, performance and reliabilityFamiliarity with government data standards, privacy frameworks and cloud platformsProficiency with data modelling and database managementA commitment to public service and ethical data useExcellent communication and collaboration skills in cross functional teamsDegree in computer science or a related field and extensive comparable knowledge and experience gained in a similar roleExperience with Azure Synapse & Pyspark preferredNāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi.
