Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Data Platform Engineer based in India. Join a modern data engineering team responsible for operating and evolving more than 400 data platforms and services across databases, streaming technologies, Kubernetes-based workloads, and managed cloud services. As a Data Platform Engineer, you will help transform traditional database administration into a scalable, automated, and cloud-native engineering practice. You will design and maintain reliable data infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, and enable development teams to access data services through self-service solutions. Working with modern DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, you will contribute to platform modernization, security, performance, and cost optimization. This fully remote opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges and building resilient, production-ready data platforms.

You will take ownership of the design, deployment, operation, and continuous improvement of data platforms, collaborating with developers, managers, and internal and external stakeholders to deliver reliable and scalable solutions. Your responsibilities will include: Design, deploy, and operate data platforms supporting databases, real-time streaming, and data processing technologies such as Kafka, Flink, and Debezium/Change Data Capture (CDC). Manage cloud-native data services across Kubernetes-based environments and managed services, including database platforms and Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) solutions. Evaluate and prototype new technologies and service providers while ensuring security, compliance, reliability, and operational readiness. Apply DevOps and SRE principles to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, deployment, and maintenance using tools such as Terraform, Terragrunt, Ansible, GitLab CI/CD, Argo CD, Vault, Python, and Bash. Develop reusable infrastructure modules, automation workflows, and standardized deployment paths that enable development teams to provision and consume data services through self-service. Reduce manual operations, repetitive tasks, and technical debt while contributing to the migration and modernization of legacy data systems. Design and maintain high-availability, resilient, and fault-tolerant architectures, including backup, recovery, replication, and failover strategies. Monitor and optimize platform reliability and performance using observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana. Investigate and resolve complex production incidents, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement corrective measures to prevent recurring issues. Analyze resource utilization, capacity requirements, and growth trends while applying FinOps principles to improve infrastructure cost efficiency. Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule to support service availability and maintain platform resilience. Requirements: The ideal candidate has hands-on experience managing production data infrastructure and a strong understanding of cloud-native technologies, automation, and database reliability. You should be comfortable working independently, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and collaborating across teams to continuously improve platform performance. The following qualifications and skills are required or desirable: Must-have qualifications: Proven experience operating production databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Valkey, including replication, high availability, backup and recovery, and upgrades. Practical experience with data streaming and real-time processing technologies, particularly Kafka and Flink. Strong knowledge of DevOps practices, including continuous integration and delivery, infrastructure automation, and Infrastructure as Code. Hands-on experience with automation and infrastructure tools such as Python, Bash, Terraform, Terragrunt, and Ansible. Strong SQL skills and experience optimizing database performance through query tuning, indexing, and database engine configuration. Operational experience with public cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure. Working knowledge of Kubernetes and container technologies. Strong autonomy, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, combined with a sense of ownership and a continuous-improvement mindset. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, active listening, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Fluency in English is mandatory. Nice-to-have qualifications: Advanced Kubernetes or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) knowledge, particularly for stateful and data-intensive workloads. Experience with database operators such as CloudNativePG, including storage management, autoscaling, and operational lifecycle management. Good Linux administration and troubleshooting skills. Experience with managed data services, including hosted PostgreSQL, Kafka, or MongoDB platforms. Familiarity with Change Data Capture technologies such as Debezium. Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows. Benefits: Work arrangement: Fully remote position. Employment type: Full-time opportunity. Modern technology environment: Work with more than 400 data platforms and services across databases, streaming, Kubernetes, and cloud-native infrastructure. Technical development: Gain hands-on exposure to modern data engineering, automation, DevOps, SRE, and platform modernization practices. Engineering impact: Help build reusable infrastructure and self-service capabilities that improve productivity across development teams. Collaborative environment: Work with technical specialists, developers, managers, and other stakeholders on complex infrastructure challenges. Operational ownership: Contribute to reliability, resilience, performance optimization, and cost-efficient platform operations.
