This is an opportunity to lead a high-performing team, shape operational strategy, and play a key role in delivering reliable and sustainable waste solutions to our customers.

A quick look at the role.

As Depot Manager, you’ll take full responsibility for the operational performance of the depot. You will ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental regulations, and operator licence requirements while leading a motivated team to deliver outstanding service and continuous improvement.

You’ll combine strong operational leadership with commercial awareness to optimise productivity, manage costs, and support sustainable growth.

Your core responsibilities.

  • Work closely with a team of dedicated waste management professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Drive performance against KPIs while promoting best practice in cost control, productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire drivers and operational staff to create a high-performing and positive workplace culture.
  • Coordinate depot resources effectively to maximise productivity and service quality.
  • Take ownership of the depot’s profit and loss performance, delegating effectively to deliver consistent growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local customers, working alongside the Biffa Business Improvement Manager to ensure excellent and cost-effective service.
  • Set clear objectives for operational teams, monitor performance, and take decisive action to achieve results.
  • Influence operational decisions, implement improvements, and help shape the future direction of the depot.

This role offers more than just operational leadership — it’s a chance to make a real impact within a leading organisation in the waste management industry.

Our essential requirements.

We’re looking for a confident and commercially minded leader who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment.

You will have:

  • Proven experience as an Operations Manager, Depot Manager, General Manager, or similar senior role within services, logistics, or transport.
  • Experience managing profit and loss performance (desirable).
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification (desirable).
  • IOSH qualification (desirable).
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, commercially driven environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and drive performance.

And here’s why you’ll love it at Biffa.

  • Competitive salary
  • Car or allowance
  • Ongoing career development, training and coaching – because if you don’t grow, we don’t grow.
  • Generous pension scheme.
  • Retail and leisure discounts.
  • Holiday and travel discounts.
  • Bike to work scheme
