Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Finance & Investment based in the United States. The Director, Finance & Investment will lead project finance, investment underwriting, capital formation, and transaction execution across a portfolio of solar energy and battery storage projects. This senior role combines financial expertise, commercial judgment, and strategic leadership to support investment decisions and long-term business growth. Working closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams, you will drive complex financing transactions from initial evaluation through closing and ongoing portfolio management. You will build relationships with lenders, investors, and capital partners while identifying opportunities to optimize financing structures and investment returns. The position also involves improving financial models, reporting processes, and investment governance while mentoring junior team members. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to the expansion of clean energy infrastructure in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.

The Director, Finance & Investment will oversee investment analysis, financing strategy, transaction execution, and portfolio reporting while serving as a trusted financial partner to senior leadership and internal teams. Key responsibilities include: Lead financial modeling, underwriting, and investment decision-making across project finance, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), capital raising, and business development activities. Evaluate project and portfolio investments by analyzing returns, capital exposure, financing assumptions, downside scenarios, sensitivities, and investment risks. Prepare and present investment materials to senior management and investment committees, clearly communicating key assumptions, value drivers, risks, and recommendations. Lead financing transactions from strategy through closing, including structuring, financial modeling, lender and investor engagement, due diligence, term sheet negotiations, documentation, closing processes, and post-closing compliance. Develop and maintain relationships with banks, tax equity investors, tax credit buyers, institutional capital providers, advisors, and other financing partners. Support capital markets strategy and evaluate new financing structures, including construction debt, back-leverage, tax equity, and tax credit transfers. Collaborate with development and commercial teams to assess project economics, evaluate offtake opportunities, analyze acquisitions, and establish financial parameters for investment decisions. Oversee recurring financial and portfolio reporting for capital partners and senior management, ensuring accurate and timely insights into performance, risks, liquidity, and capital requirements. Coordinate with accounting, treasury, legal, construction, and asset management teams to align financing assumptions, forecasts, transaction requirements, and financial reporting. Improve project finance models, underwriting standards, investment committee processes, reporting tools, and transaction workflows to strengthen scalability, consistency, and controls. Mentor and develop junior finance team members, reviewing financial models, analyses, presentations, and transaction deliverables. Lead strategic and ad hoc financial analyses while taking ownership of evolving business priorities. Requirements: The ideal candidate will bring extensive transactional experience, deep knowledge of U.S. renewable energy finance, and the ability to lead complex investments with a high degree of autonomy. The following qualifications and capabilities are expected: At least 8 years of relevant transactional experience in project finance, infrastructure investing, M&A, investment banking, or principal investing, including significant experience in the U.S. renewable energy sector. Candidates considered at Senior Director level will generally have 10 or more years of relevant experience and a demonstrated record of leading complex transactions. Proven ability to independently lead renewable energy financings or investments through closing, including structuring, underwriting, due diligence, negotiations, documentation, and internal approvals. Deep understanding of U.S. renewable energy project finance, including construction debt, back-leverage, tax equity, investment tax credit (ITC) transferability, project-level cash waterfalls, debt sizing, and covenant analysis. Experience with both solar energy and battery storage projects is strongly preferred. Advanced financial modeling skills, including the ability to build, audit, manage, and interpret complex project and portfolio finance models and translate results into actionable investment recommendations. Strong commercial and investment judgment, with the ability to assess material risks, challenge assumptions, balance competing priorities, and make informed recommendations when information is incomplete. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously, establish workplans and deadlines, and coordinate cross-functional teams toward key decisions and closing milestones. Experience managing senior internal stakeholders and external capital providers, including banks, institutional investors, tax equity investors, advisors, and legal counsel. Excellent executive-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial matters clearly to senior management, investment committees, boards, and external partners. Proven leadership skills, including mentoring junior colleagues, reviewing analytical work, and maintaining high standards of accuracy, judgment, and execution. Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related field. An MBA or other relevant graduate degree is a plus. Expert-level proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with VBA, Python, Power BI, or other analytical and automation tools is an advantage. Working technical and commercial knowledge of solar and battery energy storage technologies, including their revenue models, operating requirements, interconnection considerations, and construction economics. Strong ownership, accountability, integrity, and emotional intelligence, with the ability to work independently in an entrepreneurial environment and collaborate effectively across functions. A team-oriented mindset and willingness to take on responsibilities beyond a narrowly defined role when business needs require it. Benefits: Comprehensive medical benefits, with healthcare premiums fully funded by the company. Flexible time options to support childcare and family care, along with extended parental leave. Flexible work schedules, remote work opportunities, and a commitment to work-life balance. Attractive paid time off policy. 11 paid holidays annually, including one floating holiday of the employee's choice. One paid volunteer day each fiscal quarter. 401(k) profit-sharing program. Employee equity participation program. Continuing education and tuition assistance. An inclusive and collaborative work environment that values diverse perspectives, equitable opportunities, and individual contributions.
