Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, License Assurance based in the United States . We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to build and scale a global software license assurance and compliance program. In this role, you will oversee audit operations, ensuring customers' software usage aligns with contractual licensing terms and entitlements. You will lead a global team, establish risk-based audit strategies, and implement scalable, data-driven processes that improve compliance and deliver measurable business results. Working closely with Sales, Finance, Legal, Product, and Customer Success, you will drive cross-functional collaboration and effective resolution of licensing discrepancies. You will also optimize CRM systems, reporting frameworks, and audit workflows to enhance operational efficiency and visibility. This remote leadership opportunity is ideal for a hands-on professional who combines deep software licensing expertise with strong people management and a continuous improvement mindset.

Lead and develop the global team: Manage team structure, capacity planning, hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and quality standards while aligning productivity targets with business priorities and commercial objectives. Own the license assurance program: Establish governance, audit methodologies, risk-based customer prioritization, coverage strategies, performance expectations, and success metrics to ensure systematic and proactive audit execution. Manage the end-to-end audit lifecycle: Oversee the process from intake and prioritization through customer engagement, entitlement validation, documentation of findings, stakeholder handoffs, escalation, and resolution. Ensure licensing compliance: Establish consistent standards for assessing software usage against contractual terms, including volume commitments, permitted use cases, deployment and redistribution rights, royalty obligations, reporting requirements, and historical licensing agreements. Optimize systems and workflows: Define business requirements for Salesforce and related systems, partnering with technical and operational teams to improve data quality, workflow automation, controls, reporting accuracy, and process efficiency. Monitor performance and report results: Track capacity, audit throughput, aging, quality, pipeline generation, bookings contribution, and key risks. Present regular updates to leadership on operational performance, resource requirements, and business impact. Coordinate cross-functional resolution: Ensure audit findings and customer communications are accurate, professional, and well documented. Coordinate with Sales, Customer Success, Finance, Legal, Product, and other stakeholders to resolve commercial, contractual, and financial issues. Establish operational accountability: Implement regular reviews of team productivity, audit progress, outstanding cases, quality standards, commercial handoffs, data completeness, and downstream outcomes. Expand audit capabilities: Extend the program across additional product lines and acquired businesses, leveraging royalty workflows, customer-submitted usage reports, telemetry, and other available data sources to identify potential licensing discrepancies. Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree or relevant professional certification is an advantage. Professional experience: At least 10 years of experience in software or technology, including progressively responsible work in license auditing, license assurance, intellectual property or licensing operations, or a closely related audit or compliance function. Leadership experience: At least five years in a management role, with demonstrated success leading teams, establishing performance expectations, managing workloads, and improving operational outcomes. Software licensing expertise: Strong understanding of software licensing agreements, contractual entitlements, usage rights, compliance obligations, and the complexities of validating software usage across different deployment models. Audit operations: Proven experience managing end-to-end audit processes and developing or significantly improving audit methodologies, governance frameworks, and operational procedures. Systems and technology: Strong experience with Salesforce or comparable CRM and workflow management platforms, including the ability to define business requirements and improve reporting, data quality, and system controls. Analytical capabilities: Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks, interpret complex licensing data, identify trends, and translate findings into actionable business decisions. Communication and collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong customer relationship management capabilities, and experience working effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadership. Management and organization: Demonstrated leadership, prioritization, decision-making, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and drive accountability in a global operating environment. Location eligibility: Candidates must reside in an eligible U.S. state. Priority locations include Boston, Massachusetts; Denver, Colorado; and Charlotte, North Carolina. Other eligible states are Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. Benefits Compensation: Annual compensation ranging from $160,000 to $180,000 , depending on experience and qualifications. The stated range reflects total compensation or on-target earnings, with the upper end reserved for candidates who strongly meet the senior-level expectations. Commission opportunities: Uncapped commission structure. Health coverage: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits for employees and their families, including company-paid offerings. Paid time off: Generous PTO to support work-life balance, rest, and personal commitments. Remote work: Remote working arrangements for eligible U.S. residents. Home office support: Annual recurring work-from-home allowance to help cover home office equipment and supplies. Professional development: Ongoing learning and development opportunities to strengthen expertise and support career growth. Flexible equipment options: Choice of Windows or Mac hardware based on personal preference. Work environment: An autonomous, entrepreneurial culture that encourages ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.
