Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Marketing AI & Automation based in the United States. This senior leadership role will shape and scale the use of AI across a complex marketing organization. You will own the Marketing AI roadmap, from identifying high-value opportunities through production and operational handoff. The role combines strategic planning, technical platform leadership, governance, measurement, and organizational change. You will build the infrastructure, processes, and partnerships needed to turn AI concepts into measurable business outcomes. You will also establish governance frameworks covering brand, legal, privacy, and responsible AI considerations. As a people leader, you will build a multidisciplinary team spanning strategic, technical, and operational capabilities. This is a remote opportunity with broad organizational visibility and significant influence across marketing functions.

Own and evolve the Marketing AI roadmap, prioritizing use cases according to business impact, reclaimed capacity, strategic value, and available resources. Manage the full journey from idea through pilot, production, and operational ownership, including stage-gate processes and effective handoffs to teams responsible for ongoing outcomes. Establish and oversee an agent and orchestration platform, including reusable components, data integrations, vendor integrations, and supporting infrastructure. Lead AI governance for marketing by establishing agent audits, brand-risk assessments, exclusion zones, and review processes in collaboration with legal and brand stakeholders. Drive adoption through structured enablement programs and a network of embedded AI liaisons, ensuring AI capabilities become part of everyday marketing workflows. Build and lead a new multidisciplinary team, recruiting strategic and technical talent, integrating internal talent, and establishing clear performance expectations. Measure and communicate the value of AI initiatives, including capacity gained, speed to market, business impact, lessons learned, and initiatives that do not deliver expected results. Continuously identify and shape future AI opportunities, develop investment cases, evaluate existing initiatives, and determine when use cases should be expanded, changed, or retired. Partner with marketing, engineering, legal, brand, data, and other stakeholders to ensure AI initiatives align with organizational priorities and operational requirements. Requirements 10+ years of experience across marketing technology, growth engineering, applied AI, technical product, or related fields, including at least 4 years of team leadership experience. Demonstrated experience taking AI use cases from proof of concept through scaled production, with the ability to explain implementation challenges, outcomes, and measurable business impact. Strong understanding of marketing functions and workflows, with the ability to engage credibly with channel leaders about practical applications and limitations of AI. Strong technical fluency in agent orchestration, data integration, AI evaluation, and modern marketing technology architectures, without requiring hands-on model development. Familiarity with modern composable technology stacks, including customer data platforms, reverse ETL, cloud data platforms, and enterprise LLM tooling, is highly valued. Experience building or leading a center of excellence, platform team, or center-led function that successfully transfers capabilities to other teams. Proven judgment in managing brand, legal, privacy, and other risks associated with AI systems, including experience establishing appropriate review and governance mechanisms. Strong ability to influence outcomes across teams and roadmaps without relying solely on direct authority. Experience evaluating, selecting, and managing AI and marketing technology vendors, with sound judgment around build-versus-buy decisions. Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree in a technical or business discipline such as an MBA, Computer Science, Engineering, or Analytics is a plus. Strong strategic thinking, communication, change-management, and organizational leadership skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a distributed environment. Benefits Remote work across the United States, with employees able to work from a location of their choice subject to applicable location requirements. Base salary of $231,000–$369,000 annually in California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington State, and Washington, DC. Base salary of $219,500–$350,600 annually in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia. Eligibility for equity awards, with actual amounts varying based on experience, performance, and location. Compensation structured to meet applicable state salary thresholds for exempt employees. Distributed-work model designed around flexibility, trust, collaboration, and productivity. Inclusive and innovative work environment with opportunities to contribute to large-scale technology and marketing transformation. Equal employment opportunity and reasonable workplace accommodations for qualified applicants. Additional benefits and programs may vary based on work location and applicable employment terms.
