This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Compliance based in the United States. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for shaping HR compliance strategy across the United States and Canada. You will help strengthen governance, manage employment-related risk, and turn complex regulations into practical business solutions. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in investigations, policies, labor relations, and compliance programs. You will work closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams including HR, Legal, Finance, Technology, and Employee Relations. A key focus will be leading Canadian labor relations, including collective bargaining, contract administration, and grievance resolution. This is an opportunity to modernize compliance practices, influence enterprise-wide decisions, and build scalable programs in a complex, evolving environment. The position is remote and offers meaningful scope to shape the future of compliance across two countries.

Develop and maintain a comprehensive HR compliance framework covering U.S. and Canadian operations, ensuring alignment with evolving federal, state, provincial, and local requirements. Monitor regulatory and legislative developments and translate changes into practical policies, procedures, controls, and business practices. Lead compliance audits, risk assessments, investigations, and corrective action plans covering areas such as wage and hour, equal employment opportunity, accommodations, leave, workplace safety, pay transparency, and employment standards. Identify emerging compliance risks and partner with business and functional leaders to develop effective mitigation strategies. Oversee compliance programs relating to immigration, work authorization, visa sponsorship, and cross-border employee mobility. Develop, review, and implement HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks while establishing strong governance and documentation practices. Provide expert guidance to HR and business leaders on employment practices, policy interpretation, and complex compliance matters. Lead Canadian labor relations, including collective bargaining, contract administration, grievance resolution, and relationships with union representatives. Monitor Canadian labor legislation and assess its impact on employees, policies, and business operations. Partner with HR, Legal, Finance, Commercial, Technology, and other functions to identify risks and align compliance practices with business objectives. Advise on complex investigations involving compliance concerns, employee relations, workplace conflicts, and disciplinary matters. Influence senior leaders on employment, compliance, governance, and risk-related decisions. Coach and mentor HR, Employee Relations, and compliance professionals while contributing to a high-performing and inclusive culture. Drive continuous improvement and digital transformation by leveraging technology, systems, and data to improve compliance processes and decision-making. Maintain accurate compliance records and deliver meaningful reporting and insights to senior leadership and relevant regulatory stakeholders. Support and deliver training on applicable compliance topics, including privacy, anti-bribery, anti-corruption, antitrust, and conflicts of interest. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Law, or a related discipline. 10+ years of progressive experience in HR compliance, employee relations, employment law, or a related field, including at least 6 years in a leadership role. Strong knowledge of U.S. and Canadian employment and labor laws, employment standards, and HR compliance practices. Demonstrated ability to assess organizational risk and translate complex legal or regulatory requirements into practical, actionable business solutions. Experience leading complex investigations, compliance programs, or cross-functional initiatives. Strong judgment and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with discretion, integrity, and professionalism. Excellent communication, analytical, project management, and stakeholder-management capabilities. Proven ability to influence senior leaders and build trusted partnerships across HR, Legal, and broader business functions. Strategic mindset combined with the ability to engage directly with complex operational and compliance matters. Ability to navigate ambiguity, balance organizational consistency with local requirements, and make sound decisions in complex situations. Collaborative, curious, ethical, and continuous-improvement-oriented approach. Preferred: MBA, advanced degree, or relevant professional certification such as SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CCEP, CHRL, or CHRP. Preferred: Experience within a mid-to-large organization, ideally supporting 5,000+ employees. Preferred: Experience in telecommunications, infrastructure, technology, professional services, or another complex or regulated environment. Preferred: Experience supporting unionized workforces, including collective bargaining, contract administration, and labor relations. Preferred: Experience supporting employees and operations across both the United States and Canada. Preferred: Bilingual proficiency in French and English. Benefits: Estimated base salary range of $107,300–$165,000 USD annually , with actual compensation varying based on location, experience, skills, certifications, and organizational considerations.
