Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of IT based in the United States. We are seeking a hands-on Director of IT to build and lead IT operations across a multi-company portfolio and its parent holding company. This is a foundational leadership opportunity to establish scalable systems, strengthen security, and streamline technology operations across multiple businesses. You will oversee IT integration throughout the acquisition lifecycle, from initial technology assessments and due diligence to post-acquisition implementation and optimization. Working closely with senior IT and security advisors and managed service providers, you will develop standardized processes while respecting each company's existing infrastructure and operational needs. You will drive identity and access management, vendor oversight, technology consolidation, and cross-company systems integration. This remote leadership role is ideal for an experienced IT professional who enjoys building processes from the ground up and delivering practical solutions in a dynamic, acquisition-driven environment.

Lead acquisition-related IT operations: Oversee technology assessments, IT due diligence, inventory management, access mapping, device configuration, account provisioning, and systems integration for newly acquired businesses. Develop acquisition integration playbooks: Design, implement, and continuously improve a structured Day 1–100 integration framework to support multiple acquisitions each quarter, ensuring consistency, security, and operational continuity. Manage identity and access workflows: Establish and maintain joiner, mover, and leaver processes, ensuring appropriate access provisioning, role changes, and complete access revocation when employees leave the organization. Implement identity management solutions: Lead the deployment and administration of identity platforms, including single sign-on (SSO), automated provisioning, and user lifecycle management across portfolio companies. Maintain technology inventories: Build and manage a comprehensive inventory of software tools, user accounts, credentials, licenses, contracts, and renewal dates to improve visibility, strengthen security, and identify consolidation opportunities. Oversee managed service providers: Manage relationships with external IT service providers, monitor service-level agreements (SLAs), evaluate performance, negotiate contracts, coordinate renewals, and optimize licensing costs. Drive technology standardization: Develop practical IT policies, procedures, and operational standards that balance centralized governance with the unique requirements of individual portfolio companies. Build cross-portfolio integrations: Develop and maintain backend integrations that support a shared data platform, enabling more consistent information flows and better coordination across the portfolio. Assess and improve existing environments: Map undocumented systems, identify technical gaps and operational risks, and implement scalable solutions that improve reliability, security, and efficiency. Collaborate with stakeholders: Work closely with executive leadership, IT and security advisors, managed service providers, and business teams to align technology initiatives with acquisition strategies and organizational objectives. Support security and compliance: Strengthen access controls, account governance, and technology oversight while supporting the security and regulatory needs of businesses operating in different industries. Establish scalable IT operations: Create repeatable processes, documentation, and performance measures that support continued portfolio growth and reduce operational complexity. Requirements Professional experience: Six to ten years of hands-on experience in IT operations, systems administration, managed service providers, or IT consulting, including at least three years in an IT leadership role. Multi-company IT experience: Proven experience supporting multiple businesses, business units, or clients, ideally in environments with different technology stacks, operating models, and levels of IT maturity. Acquisition integration expertise: Demonstrated ability to lead IT activities from acquisition due diligence through post-close integration, including technology inventories, account setup, access mapping, and systems consolidation. Identity and access management: Strong knowledge of identity and access management platforms such as Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, or JumpCloud, including SSO, user provisioning, access controls, and lifecycle automation. Productivity and collaboration platforms: Experience administering and supporting Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 across users, devices, applications, and business environments. IT operations and systems administration: Solid understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure, account management, software licensing, system integrations, and operational support processes. Vendor and contract management: Experience managing MSP relationships, negotiating vendor contracts, monitoring SLAs, overseeing renewals, and identifying opportunities to optimize technology spending. Process development: Ability to create clear, repeatable IT playbooks and operational workflows from scratch, document existing systems, and improve processes as organizational needs evolve. Security and access governance: Understanding of IT security best practices, access lifecycle management, credential oversight, offboarding controls, and risk mitigation across distributed environments. Stakeholder management: Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with executives, technical teams, external providers, and nontechnical stakeholders. Adaptability and problem-solving: A practical, hands-on approach to resolving complex IT challenges, prioritizing competing demands, and navigating both centralized and decentralized operating models. Preferred portfolio experience: Previous experience working for a holding company, private equity-backed organization, or multi-company portfolio operator is an advantage. Preferred regulated-industry experience: Familiarity with IT operations and security requirements in regulated sectors such as healthcare, financial services, or defense is beneficial. Leadership mindset: Ability to establish accountability, drive initiatives independently, and build scalable operational foundations in a fast-paced, evolving business environment. Benefits Competitive base salary: Annual compensation ranging from $140,000 to $175,000 , depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location. Performance-based bonus: Additional compensation tied to performance. Fully remote work: Work remotely from within the United States. Leadership opportunity: Build and lead IT operations across a growing portfolio of businesses. Strategic influence: Shape technology standards, acquisition integration processes, identity management, and security practices across multiple companies. Professional growth: Gain exposure to acquisition-driven business operations, enterprise technology strategy, and cross-company systems integration. Cross-functional collaboration: Work directly with senior IT and security advisors, external technology partners, and business leadership. Opportunity to build from the ground up: Establish scalable processes, implement new platforms, and drive measurable improvements in operational efficiency and technology governance.
