Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Partner Credit Risk Management & Oversight based in United States. This is a senior leadership opportunity focused on strengthening credit risk oversight across a growing Banking-as-a-Service and fintech partner ecosystem. You will lead a second-line credit risk function designed to support responsible growth while maintaining strong risk governance and independent oversight. The role combines strategic leadership, portfolio analytics, counterparty risk management, credit governance, and regulatory engagement. You will oversee a team of Partner Credit Risk Managers and provide credible challenge to partner models, underwriting strategies, assumptions, and performance expectations. Your work will help identify emerging risks, manage concentrations and exposures, and protect the financial resilience of partner programs. You will collaborate extensively with fintech partners, internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and regulators in a highly evolving financial services environment. The ideal candidate brings deep credit expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to balance innovation and growth with disciplined risk management.

Lead, develop, and manage a team of Partner Credit Risk Managers responsible for second-line oversight of partner credit programs. Establish, maintain, and continuously enhance a comprehensive credit risk oversight framework covering the full BaaS partner portfolio. Develop and recommend credit risk policies, standards, controls, and risk appetite requirements for partner credit programs. Evaluate partner credit models, underwriting strategies, portfolio structures, and program designs, providing approval or recommendations to senior leadership as appropriate. Monitor partner portfolio performance, identifying trends, concentrations, emerging risks, deteriorating performance, and appropriate mitigation plans. Guide the development and implementation of early warning indicators, portfolio stress scenarios, exposure monitoring, and other forward-looking risk tools. Provide independent and credible challenge to partner assumptions, models, forecasts, underwriting approaches, and reported performance. Collaborate with fintech partners, program managers, and internal stakeholders to ensure credit practices remain aligned with established risk expectations and appetite. Support due diligence and onboarding of new BaaS partners, including comprehensive credit risk and financial assessments. Design and implement effective controls for counterparty credit risk management, including ongoing monitoring and escalation standards. Lead assessments of partner financial strength and stability, including analysis of financial statements, cash flows, liquidity, capital adequacy, and funding structures. Establish counterparty risk ratings, exposure limits, monitoring requirements, and escalation thresholds. Identify and escalate risks associated with partner sustainability, operational dependencies, financial condition, and changing market conditions. Support compliance with regulatory expectations and third-party risk management requirements, including applicable guidance from banking regulators. Engage with senior stakeholders and regulators on credit risk matters, examinations, portfolio performance, and risk management practices. Balance business innovation and partner growth opportunities with disciplined credit risk governance and the organization's overall risk appetite. Requirements 12+ years of experience in credit risk, lending, risk management, or a related function within a bank or other regulated financial institution. 5+ years of experience in a second-line-of-defense, independent oversight, or comparable risk governance function. Proven experience leading teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholders at senior levels. Demonstrated experience working with fintech partners, Banking-as-a-Service platforms, embedded finance models, or comparable partner-based financial services ecosystems. Strong expertise across consumer and small business lending portfolios, including underwriting, portfolio management, credit risk frameworks, and governance. Deep experience in counterparty credit risk assessment, including financial statement, cash flow, liquidity, capital, and funding analysis. Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to transform complex portfolio and financial data into clear, actionable risk insights. Familiarity with credit models, stress testing methodologies, portfolio analytics, and relevant data analysis tools. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide effective challenge and influence senior executives and other stakeholders. Experience interacting with banking regulators, particularly in connection with BaaS, fintech partnerships, or related examinations, is highly desirable. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline. An advanced degree such as an MBA, MS, or equivalent is preferred. Strong judgment and strategic thinking, with the ability to balance innovation, commercial growth, and rigorous risk discipline. Willingness and ability to travel as required. Benefits Base salary range of $146,230–$195,217 . Fully remote work environment. Full-time leadership opportunity with significant influence over partner credit risk strategy and governance. Opportunity to lead and develop a specialized credit risk team. Exposure to innovative Banking-as-a-Service, fintech, and embedded finance business models.
