Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Supply Chain & Global Logistics based in the United States. The Director of Supply Chain & Global Logistics will lead the strategic development and day-to-day execution of a complex, international distribution network supporting humanitarian and community-focused programs. This hands-on leadership role oversees the movement of donated and procured goods, with a focus on operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, and rapid response capabilities. You will optimize domestic logistics while strengthening international distribution, customs compliance, and European supply chain capacity. Using data analytics, enterprise systems, and practical automation, you will improve visibility, forecasting, reporting, and decision-making across the supply chain. You will also build strong partnerships, develop a high-performing logistics team, and establish consistent standards for safety, accountability, and financial reconciliation. This is an opportunity to combine operational problem-solving with long-term transformation in a mission-driven, global environment.
Inventory Management and Demand Planning: Design and implement responsive demand forecasting and inventory management frameworks that align program requirements, donor pipelines, supplier availability, partner capacity, and community needs. Improve stock visibility, rotation, storage efficiency, and expiration risk management. Disaster Response Preparedness: Establish and manage a pre-positioned disaster response reserve that enables rapid deployment during emergencies while protecting the continuity of ongoing distribution programs. End-to-End Supply Chain Execution: Oversee the complete lifecycle of donated and procured goods, from donor offer matching and freight contracting to receiving, inventory verification, distribution, documentation, and financial closeout. Domestic Logistics and Warehousing: Lead U.S. logistics operations, representing approximately 70% of the role's scope. Strengthen warehouse and recipient partner operations through effective safety protocols, pest control, receiving procedures, capacity planning, and field training. International Logistics and Expansion: Manage international operations, representing approximately 30% of the role's scope, including cross-border transportation, import/export documentation, customs compliance, and regional distribution requirements. Develop strategies to expand sustainable supply chain capacity across Europe. Carrier and Broker Management: Build and maintain relationships with freight carriers, brokers, warehouses, and logistics providers. Negotiate competitive rates, monitor service-level agreements, and resolve transportation issues, including delays, damages, detention, and freight claims. Systems Integration and Digital Transformation: Serve as the operational owner of logistics technology, including Salesforce, NetSuite ERP, Smartsheet, SharePoint, and warehouse management systems. Improve system integration, data accuracy, workflow efficiency, and financial reporting while reducing manual data entry. Data Analytics and Decision Support: Transform operational and field data into actionable insights. Develop executive dashboards to monitor reporting timeliness, shipment cycle times, acceptance and decline rates, pledged-versus-received accuracy, and overall distribution impact. Process Improvement and Standard Operating Procedures: Identify operational bottlenecks, troubleshoot field challenges, and develop consistent standard operating procedures for shipment tracking, inventory management, and bill of lading documentation. Balance practical field needs with appropriate controls and scalable systems. Financial Reconciliation and Governance: Partner with Finance to align physical inventory movements, receipt documentation, invoices, and general ledger records. Improve reconciliation and closeout timelines while maintaining audit-ready documentation, donor-restricted goods controls, no-resale policies, and product recall procedures. Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure international shipments comply with applicable U.S. export control and sanctions requirements, including EAR and OFAC regulations. Support denied-party screening, internal and external audits, and relevant IRS documentation requirements, including Form 990 and Form 8282 standards. Partner Performance and Capacity Building: Establish performance criteria, quality scorecards, and audit frameworks for domestic and international distribution partners. Develop onboarding resources, digital training modules, and support processes, implementing corrective actions when safety or compliance standards are not met. Team Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration: Recruit, develop, and lead the global logistics team, establishing clear responsibilities and career development pathways. Collaborate with Programs, Finance, Operations, and Corporate Relations, translating complex supply chain information into practical recommendations for senior leadership. Requirements: A bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field is required; a master's degree is a plus. At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in global supply chain and logistics management. Professional certification such as APICS/ASCM CSCP or CPIM, ISM CPSM, or Certified Humanitarian Logistician (CHL) is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience as a hands-on operational leader and troubleshooter, capable of making timely, practical decisions in fast-paced environments, ideally within nonprofit, NGO, or humanitarian operations. Extensive knowledge of U.S. freight transportation and warehousing networks, along with practical experience in international shipping, cross-border logistics, customs processes, and international trade compliance. Experience with enterprise resource planning systems, particularly NetSuite, customer relationship management platforms such as Salesforce, and warehouse management systems. Ability to integrate everyday operational tools, including spreadsheets and Smartsheet, with enterprise platforms and AI-assisted workflows to improve automation, efficiency, and user adoption. Strong understanding of inventory valuation, financial reconciliation, audit readiness, donor-restricted goods, and the documentation required for accountable distribution operations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and strong analytical skills, including the ability to translate operational data into meaningful performance indicators and recommendations. Proven ability to develop and implement demand planning models, inventory controls, standard operating procedures, and measurable process improvements. Excellent leadership, communication, team-building, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and geographic regions. Strong strategic thinking, initiative, and adaptability, balancing immediate operational challenges with long-term systems modernization and organizational growth. Commitment to humanitarian impact, responsible resource management, and mission-driven work. Ability to work remotely on a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, generally from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the employee's time zone. Willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time for domestic and international operational needs. Benefits: Annual salary: $94,000–$126,000. Remote work: Fully remote position, with a standard full-time schedule of 40 hours per week. Paid time off: Paid vacation and sick leave. Paid holidays: 13 paid national holidays. Parental leave: Parental leave benefits. Healthcare coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance. Retirement savings: 401(k) plan. Life insurance: Life insurance coverage. Meaningful impact: Opportunity to strengthen global distribution operations and help deliver essential resources to communities in need. Leadership and development: Scope to lead a global logistics team, improve operational systems, and shape long-term supply chain strategy.
