For HBO and university students from September through December 2026, the published monthly basic grant is €130.21 for students living with parents or €324.52 for students living away from home, with a maximum supplementary grant of €491.08. Optional loan components include a regular loan up to €315.17 and a tuition-fee loan of €224.50, with a higher tuition-fee-loan ceiling of up to €1,122.50 for institutional tuition, never exceeding tuition owed. The published maximum total of €1,160.96 living with parents or €1,355.27 living away includes loan components and must not be interpreted as all grant funding.
Eligibility requirements
For HBO or university study, applicants generally must be younger than 30 when student finance starts, be enrolled in an officially recognised full-time or dual Bachelor’s, Master’s or Associate degree programme lasting at least one year, and meet DUO nationality or residence-status rules. Dutch nationals and certain residence-permit holders qualify; some EU/EEA, Swiss and UK citizens or qualifying family members may also be eligible under additional conditions.
