Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Financial Crime Manager based in Spain. As a Financial Crime Manager, you will take ownership of anti-money laundering (AML) risk across a growing digital marketplace and its evolving range of products and payment methods. You will play a key role in building and implementing the AML framework from the ground up, ensuring that risk controls keep pace with business growth. Working closely with Risk & Fraud Operations and Compliance, you will lead investigations, strengthen customer due diligence processes, and support regulatory reporting. You will analyze complex data to identify suspicious patterns, uncover root causes, and translate findings into actionable recommendations. With an upcoming transition toward regulated e-money operations, you will help establish the foundations for regulatory readiness and sustainable compliance. This is an opportunity to combine strategic ownership with hands-on execution in a fast-moving, collaborative environment where your expertise can make a tangible impact.

Own AML risk management: Assess products, payment methods, and commercial initiatives for money laundering exposure, identifying gaps and opportunities to strengthen existing controls. Build AML frameworks and processes: Develop and implement risk assessment methodologies, control frameworks, and approval procedures for existing products and new launches. Lead financial crime investigations: Investigate suspicious activity, prepare cases suitable for Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) submissions, and collaborate with Compliance on regulatory reporting. Conduct customer and sanctions screening: Perform sanctions screening, customer due diligence (CDD), and enhanced due diligence (EDD) to identify and mitigate financial crime risks. Drive data-led risk analysis: Analyze large datasets to detect suspicious patterns, identify root causes, and translate findings into clear, practical recommendations. Support regulatory readiness: Help prepare risk and fraud operations for evolving regulatory requirements, including the anticipated electronic money institution (EMI) licensing process. Promote AML awareness and best practices: Train colleagues, share expertise, and embed a strong financial crime prevention culture across teams. Translate strategy into action: Define the AML roadmap while remaining actively involved in day-to-day operational activities, investigations, and control improvements. Requirements: Relevant professional experience: 3–5 years of experience in anti-money laundering, financial crime prevention, or a related field, ideally within fintech or banking. AML operational expertise: Hands-on experience with sanctions screening, customer due diligence (CDD), and enhanced due diligence (EDD). Investigations and regulatory reporting: Experience conducting financial crime investigations, preparing regulatory reports, and working with regulators or relevant authorities. Strong analytical capabilities: Demonstrated experience analyzing data, identifying patterns, conducting root cause analysis, and developing evidence-based recommendations. Problem-solving skills: Ability to investigate complex issues, assess risks, and design effective, practical solutions. Ownership and independence: A strong sense of accountability, attention to detail, high quality standards, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment. Framework development: Confidence in designing new policies, controls, and processes rather than relying exclusively on established procedures. Location and availability: Based in Romania or able to work effectively within a compatible European time zone. Additional advantages: A recognized AML certification, such as ICA or ACAMS; SQL knowledge; and experience working in a fast-paced, results-oriented fintech environment. Benefits: Competitive compensation: Annual salary ranging from €30,000 to €40,000, depending on experience and responsibilities. Employee stock options: Opportunity to participate in an employee stock options program. Performance and referral bonuses: Access to various bonus schemes, including performance-based and referral incentives. Additional paid leave: Opportunities to earn extra time off through applicable bonus programs. Learning and development: A dedicated personal learning budget to support ongoing professional growth. Paid volunteering: Opportunities to contribute to causes that matter through paid volunteering initiatives. Flexible working arrangements: Freedom to choose your preferred work location, with office-based, remote, and work-from-anywhere opportunities, subject to applicable arrangements. Career progression: Opportunities for accelerated personal and professional development, supported by structured feedback and promotion processes. Meaningful impact: The opportunity to build AML capabilities from the ground up, influence risk management practices, and contribute to the development of a growing digital marketplace.
