Overview

AIT, a global company with 170+ locations worldwide, is building the team that will build our next-generation technology. As part of this, we're opening a new development center in Tel Aviv.

The Founding Software Engineer, Skunkworks is an individual-contributor engineer on AIT's new Skunkworks team, responsible for building key elements of what a company of this size will run on. As a founding engineer on the new team, this role helps select the architecture, stack, and tooling, and establishes the engineering practices that will shape the next chapter of how the company develops software.

This is a hands-on role that designs, builds, and ships production systems solving real operational problems. The engineer works AI-natively, using agents, RAG, and LLM pipelines, and applies AI-assisted development as a daily force multiplier. They thrive in ambiguity - because the map isn't drawn yet.

The role ships to production and owns systems end-to-end in production, ensuring reliability, quality, auditability, and operational performance, and demos work directly to company leadership.

Responsibilities

• Platform Architecture & Build

• Build AIT's next-generation technology from the ground up, contributing to the selection of architecture, stack, and tooling.

• Partner with operations stakeholders to translate appropriate operational pain points into shipped software.

• Make and document the foundational technical decisions expected of a founding engineer on the Skunkworks team.

• AI-Native Development

• Design, build, and operate capabilities using agents, RAG, and LLM pipelines.

• Apply AI-assisted development as a daily force multiplier across the engineering workflow.

• Evaluate emerging AI models, frameworks, and tooling and adopt what measurably improves delivery.

• Production Ownership

• Ship to production and own systems end-to-end in production.

• Ensure the reliability, quality, and operational performance of the systems this role builds.

• Engineering Culture & Practices

• Establish the engineering practices, standards, and quality bar across the work this role builds.

• Demo work directly to company leadership as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience with a demonstrated track record of success.

• Master’s degree in computer science or a related field is preferred.

• Experience

• Proven experience delivering software solutions end-to-end, with accountability for deployment, reliability, and ongoing production support.

• Demonstrated ability to leverage modern AI tools and AI-assisted development techniques as a core part of the software development lifecycle.

• Strong track record of building, shipping, and operating scalable, production-grade systems.

• Technical Skills & Expertise

• Deep expertise in end-to-end software and AI engineering, including system design, development, testing, deployment, and production ownership.

• Advanced proficiency with modern AI tooling and AI-native development practices.

• Extensive experience designing and implementing Large Language Model (LLM) applications, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, and AI agent-based systems, including how to deploy them safely - validation, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop.

• Strong understanding of scalable software architectures, automation, and best practices for building resilient and intelligent applications.
