Islamabad, Pakistan: The Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) recently celebrated the successful completion of its National Internship Program 2026 at the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), Islamabad. The closing ceremony brought together interns and mentors from PUAN’s Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapters to reflect on three months of professional learning, mentorship, and career development.

Held from June 1 to August 30, 2026, the nationwide program engaged 38 interns and 37 mentors across Pakistan, connecting emerging professionals with experienced U.S. exchange alumni for practical workplace exposure, professional guidance, and skills development. A significant outcome of this year’s program was that 39% of participating interns received job offers, demonstrating the program’s contribution to improving employment prospects and creating pathways into the workforce.

The ceremony featured opening remarks by Dr. Peter K. Moran, Executive Director of the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), followed by reflections from participating interns and mentors. Marta Aparicio, Public Diplomacy Officer at the U.S. Embassy Islamabad, delivered the closing remarks. The evening concluded with certificate distribution, photographs, and a networking dinner, providing an opportunity for participants to strengthen professional connections and explore future collaboration.

From Internship Experience To Employment Opportunities

Among the participants sharing their experiences was Shahab ud Din, an alumnus of English Works (2021–2022) and the Young South Asian Leaders Initiative (YSALI) U.S. Workshops 2026. Reflecting on his professional journey, Shahab shared that his performance during the internship led to an offer for a Project Manager position at English Lab.

Shahab, who is also Co-Founder and Director of Programs at the Peshawar-based Culture, Literature, Arts and Development Organization (CLADO), highlighted how access to the PUAN community creates opportunities for professional growth, mentorship, and collaboration. His experience demonstrated how exchange alumni can build on their existing leadership and community engagement skills to pursue new professional responsibilities.

Aniqa Sattar, an Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) 2023 alumna, shared her experience interning at Ignite. During her placement, she gained practical exposure to institutional coordination and high-level professional engagement, contributing to activities ranging from memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing processes to the preparation of briefing notes for ambassador-level engagements involving the Swedish and German embassies.

Her experience illustrated how structured internships can help emerging professionals develop workplace confidence, professional communication skills, and an understanding of institutional processes.

Alumni Mentorship: Opening Doors For The Next Generation

The ceremony also highlighted the importance of mentorship in helping young professionals navigate career opportunities and apply their skills in practical settings.

Hamza Mubashir, an English Works 2021 alumnus and recently returned Fulbright scholar (2024–2026), reflected on how his exchange journey helped shape his professional development. He shared that English Works opened doors to opportunities that eventually led him to the Fulbright Program. Now serving as a mentor in the National Internship Program, Hamza emphasized his desire to help create similar opportunities for others.

Hamza, who pursued an MS in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at Northeastern University, is also Co-Founder and CEO of Invoy, an AI startup focused on administrative automation. His transition from exchange participant to technology entrepreneur and mentor illustrated how alumni can contribute to workforce development by sharing industry knowledge and entrepreneurial experience.

Dr. Asad Shahjehan, a 2023 International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumnus and Associate Professor in the Department of Management Sciences at Hazara University, Mansehra, also represented the program’s emphasis on connecting academic knowledge with workplace needs.

With experience in business incubation, entrepreneurship development, and university-industry collaboration, Dr. Shahjehan brought expertise relevant to helping young professionals understand workplace expectations, innovation ecosystems, and entrepreneurial opportunities. His involvement reflected the value of alumni mentorship in bridging academic preparation and practical career development.

Building A Stronger Pipeline Of Skilled Professionals

The PUAN National Internship Program 2026 reinforced the network’s commitment to translating U.S. exchange experiences into tangible professional opportunities across Pakistan.

By connecting emerging professionals with alumni mentors working in technology, entrepreneurship, education, development, and other sectors, the program helped participants gain workplace experience, strengthen professional competencies, and build connections that can support their long-term careers.

The 39% job-offer outcome was a particularly encouraging indicator of the program’s potential to support employment pathways. Beyond immediate job opportunities, the initiative also strengthened a culture of mentorship in which experienced alumni invest their time and expertise in preparing the next generation of professionals.

As the 2026 cohort concluded its journey, the closing ceremony underscored a central strength of the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network: turning exchange experiences into practical skills, professional opportunities, and lasting contributions to Pakistan’s workforce and economic development.
