Overview

Generative-AI education hackathon for Egyptian university student teams and registered startups building practical AI-powered education prototypes and product features.

Complete hackathon details

The GenAI for Education Hackathon 2026 is organized by Egypt University of Informatics under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and in partnership with the GAINAfrica Horizon Europe project. Applications close 20 September 2026. Student teams build new GenAI education prototypes; startup teams integrate GenAI into existing products or new features.

Eligibility requirements

Student track: undergraduate or graduate students from any accredited Egyptian university in teams of 3–5, including cross-university teams. Startup track: registered startups in teams of 2–4.

Tips for this hackathon

Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Choose the correct student or startup track and prepare the required working prototype/integration and pitch deliverables described by the organizer.
  2. Read the rules, eligibility, judging criteria, required technologies and intellectual-property terms before forming your submission plan.
  3. Build a complementary team early and assign product, engineering, design, research and presentation responsibilities clearly.
  4. Optimize for the published judging rubric: demonstrate a real problem, working solution, measurable impact and a concise live demo.
  5. Prepare the repository, pitch deck, demo video and submission links before the final hours so upload or platform problems do not invalidate the entry.
  6. Check whether travel, finalist presentations, team-size limits or mandatory attendance apply before committing.

Verification notes

Official Egypt University of Informatics page confirms student and startup tracks, team sizes, applications opening 23 August and closing 20 September 2026, technical enablement activities and the education-focused GenAI challenge themes. The page contains an awards graphic but no reliably extracted prize amounts, so none are invented.
