Overview

GIF is accepting 2026 pre-proposals on artificial intelligence in STEM, medicine, social sciences and humanities through collaborative and solo funding tracks for eligible researchers in Israel and Germany.

Complete grant details

The collaborative track supports at least one PI from each country for up to 3 years with a maximum total budget of €300,000. The solo track supports eligible early-career PIs for one year with a maximum budget of €25,000 and requires a minimum seven-day research visit to the other country. The portal opened 1 September 2026; pre-proposals close 15 October 2026 and invited full proposals close 30 March 2027.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree and be affiliated with a GIF-eligible non-profit scientific institution while holding a permanent, tenure-track, or sufficiently long contract; postdoctoral candidates are not eligible as PIs. Collaborative proposals require Israeli and German PIs. Solo applicants must be within 8 years after the doctorate at the grant start, subject to listed extensions, and must have no prior formal scientific ties with researchers from the other country.

Tips for this grant

Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
  2. Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
  3. Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
  4. Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.

Verification notes

Verified on GIF’s current 2026 call page. The live timetable says the submission portal opened 1 September 2026 and pre-proposals close 15 October 2026. The page contains an apparent year typo in a later notification row; this record does not reproduce or infer from that inconsistent row.
