This entry-level role supports utility and infrastructure projects through accurate geospatial analysis and data management. You will work with engineering documents, asset records, maps, and geospatial databases to help teams make informed project decisions. The position combines GIS expertise, quality control, and detailed document review in a collaborative project environment. You will partner closely with engineers and project managers to validate utility infrastructure data and strengthen client deliverables. The role offers hands-on exposure to electric utility systems, engineering documentation, and large-scale data management workflows. With remote flexibility and occasional collaboration in the San Francisco Bay Area, it provides opportunities to develop both technical and project skills. It is well suited to a detail-oriented GIS professional who enjoys structured problem-solving and contributing to high-quality client outcomes.
Review engineering drawings, specifications, as-built documentation, and related project materials to identify and interpret information needed for GIS and asset analysis. Validate underground and overhead electric system data, including structures, components, configurations, and supporting documentation describing current asset conditions. Use GIS, SAP, document repositories, and other client platforms to research, verify, and reconcile project and asset information. Create, edit, update, and maintain GIS records, maps, diagrams, and geodatabases, including extracting data for analysis and reporting. Research engineering and project documentation to gather accurate asset information and support project deliverables. Perform quality control and review activities for asset inventories, engineering drawings, GIS records, and related documentation. Prepare markups and redlines on engineering documents in accordance with project requirements and client specifications. Maintain project tracking logs, status updates, schedules, coordination tools, and records of project challenges or outstanding items. Produce project reports, maps, data extracts, and progress updates to support internal teams and clients. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to resolve data issues and maintain accurate project documentation. Support client meetings, workshops, and project activities as required, including occasional onsite collaboration in the San Francisco Bay Area. Work extended hours or overtime when project demands require additional support. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, or a related discipline, or a GIS certificate combined with relevant professional experience. At least 1 year of professional work experience; prior GIS experience is preferred but not mandatory. Demonstrated proficiency with Esri ArcGIS, including ArcGIS Desktop 10.x and/or ArcGIS Pro, with the ability to develop, edit, and maintain data derived from engineering as-built drawings. Understanding of geographic data types, including land base, imagery, utility infrastructure, and related spatial information. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Access. Strong attention to detail and the ability to complete complex assignments accurately and consistently. Effective written and verbal communication skills and a professional approach when interacting with colleagues and clients. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative project team. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage project information, deadlines, and competing priorities. Interest or experience in structured quality assurance, quality control, and data validation environments is valuable. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for occasional travel to client locations. Ability to work remotely while participating in occasional hybrid meetings and workshops within the San Francisco Bay Area. Ability to remain in a stationary position for approximately 50% of the working day and regularly operate computers, scanners, copiers, and related equipment. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients and, when required, move or carry boxes weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; employment visa sponsorship is not available. Benefits Competitive compensation, determined based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, and market conditions.
