Renewable merit-and-need scholarships for first-year higher-education students in Portugal who enter with strong admission scores and limited financial resources.
Complete scholarship details
The scholarship pays €2,000 per academic year and includes a one-time additional €2,000 grant for an approved international mobility period such as Erasmus. Awards may be renewed through completion of a master’s degree subject to the programme’s renewal rules.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must enter higher education through Portugal’s 2026/27 general access and admission competition with an admission grade of at least 170 points, be enrolled in a legally recognised Portuguese higher education institution and accredited programme, and not already hold a higher-education degree. Applying for a DGES social-action grant is mandatory. The scholarship is awarded only where annual household income per capita, as verified by institutional social services, does not exceed €14,000.
Tips for this scholarship
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
