The Inspectorate at WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru plays a critical role in workplace health and safety. The Inspectorate's overall goal is to prevent workplace harm, promote a culture of health and safety, and hold organisations accountable for maintaining healthy and safe working conditions.
Guided by evidence about acute, chronic, and catastrophic harm, WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru prioritise high-risk sectors and high-risk activities. Across these priority areas, WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru deliver enforcement, engagement and permitting activities to maximise our influence and achieve better, more equitable outcomes.
Our Wellington team is a mix of experienced Inspectors and newer team members who are building their knowledge and skills together. United by a shared purpose, they are committed to keeping the "best little capital" safe and healthy.
Based in the heart of Wellington's CBD, our office is also home to WorkSafe New Zealand Mahi Haumaru Aotearoa's National Office. This provides strong connections across the organisation and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues from a wide range of teams.
The team works across several high-risk sectors, including forestry, manufacturing, agriculture, and construction. Experience in, or knowledge of, the construction industry, including asbestos management, would be advantageous, but is not essential.
The region spans Wellington City, the Kāpiti Coast through to north of Ōtaki, and extends over the Remutaka Hills into the Wairarapa, reaching as far as south of Eketāhuna. Regular travel is a key part of the role, offering the opportunity to build relationships with businesses across a diverse range of workplaces and communities. For those who enjoy being out and about, this role offers the chance to regularly travel over the Remutakas and work alongside businesses throughout the Wairarapa!
