At Backcountry, our mission is to connect people to their passions. Our four online stores—Backcountry, Competitive Cyclist, MotoSport and, SteepandCheap—aim to supply our customers with the gear, knowledge, and inspiration necessary to get out there and chase down life’s greatest moments. We do this by providing the biggest and best assortment of premium outdoor products, superior shopping experience, personalized Gearhead expertise, lightning-fast and accurate fulfillment, and inspirational, informative, and community-centered content.
Adventure is our Culture. Join a team that celebrates a lifestyle as bold as the terrain we love. At Backcountry, we are rooted in adventure, recognition, and wellbeing on and off the mountain. We spotlight employee stories, celebrate milestones, and offer exclusive outdoor perks. Whether you are at HQ, in a retail store, or remote, you will be part of a team that thrives on energy, exploration, and connection. Reports to: Sr. HR Manager Location: Utah Fulfillment Center, 2607 S 3200 W, West Valley City, UT 84119. On-Site 100%, No Remote Options
About the Role You will serve as the on-site HR presence for Backcountry's Utah Fulfillment Center, owning the full people function for a high-volume hourly workforce where your decisions directly shape culture, retention, and operational performance. Your scope spans every touchpoint of the employee lifecycle, and your impact is felt on the floor every day. At 6-12 months, success looks like keeping a strong operation running: turnover holds steady, the supervisory team continues to build on its people management skills, and ER matters are handled with consistency, speed, and zero compliance exposure. Leaders trust you, employees know you, and HR is seen as a partner in sustaining operational results, not a back-office function. This is a lean team. You will own a lot, move fast, and make decisions with full end-to-end responsibility.
Operational HR Partnership Serve as a key HR partner to FC leaders on day-to-day people operations. Participate in decision-making discussions that impact staffing, retention, and culture. Help create accountability through shared ownership of people metrics and leadership cross-training. Talent Acquisition & Onboarding Lead local onboarding efforts, ensuring a welcoming and consistent new hire experience. Employee Experience & Retention Champion the full employee lifecycle—from onboarding to development milestones and recognition. Identify trends from exit interviews and employee feedback, and use insights to improve retention and engagement. Collaborate with the team to set and track clear retention goals. Training & Development Design and deliver supervisor training and development programs. Help upskill leaders through instructor-led sessions and on-the-job support. HR Operations & Compliance Maintain accurate employee records and compliance documentation. Partner with Safety and Operations teams to support OSHA initiatives and maintain a culture of safety. Assist in employee relations matters, conduct investigations, and recommend appropriate next steps. Support DEI and engagement initiatives at the local level. Data & Reporting Create and share monthly HR metrics with site leadership, contributing to broader reporting consistency across locations. Track progress on key indicators including turnover, hiring performance, engagement scores, and compliance.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field. 2–4 years of experience in an HR Generalist or related role—ideally in a fulfillment, logistics, or manufacturing setting. Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR fundamentals. Comfortable supporting both hourly and salaried employees in a high-paced, frontline environment. Proactive communicator who builds trust and influences across all levels. Demonstrated success with recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and retention. Experience with HRIS systems and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Bonus: Familiarity with OSHA or safety regulations in an operational setting.
Executive Access: Work directly with brand CEOs and senior leadership, solving real business problems and earning mentorship from top operators. AI-First Skill Building: Get hands-on with the most advanced AI tools in the market. From automation to prompt engineering, you’ll build a modern tech stack that sets you apart in any industry. Accelerated Career Path: High performers are quickly entrusted with greater responsibility, new challenges, and leadership opportunities across our portfolio of brands.
