Annual Icelandic Government scholarships for eligible foreign university students to study the BA programme in Icelandic as a Second Language at the University of Iceland.

Approximately 12 scholarships are awarded annually for the period from 1 September to 31 May. The scholarship covers University of Iceland registration fees and provides a monthly stipend intended to cover room and board for one person, paid from September through April. Applications must be sent by post to the Árni Magnússon Institute; email applications are not accepted.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be nationals of one of the countries listed by the programme (Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States), have completed at least one university year in humanities, and have basic Icelandic equivalent to Icelandic Online 1 and 2. Preference is generally given to candidates under 35. U.S. applicants follow the separate Fulbright/IIE route stated by the programme.
