About Silver Lining

Silver Lining, part of the Focus Group family, delivers secure communications and PCI compliance solutions to businesses across the UK.

We're looking for a technically minded Infrastructure Engineer to join our specialist team based in Whiteley.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting our Voice and PCI compliant platform and the underlying infrastructure that delivers it. No two days are the same - you could be analysing SIP signalling to resolve complex call issues, capturing packet traces, commissioning a new customer, performing maintenance in our datacentres, or working directly with carriers and technology partners to troubleshoot service-impacting faults.

You'll work closely with experienced engineers, partners and customers to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions. If you're naturally curious, enjoy solving technical problems and want to develop your knowledge in voice, networking and Linux technologies, we'd like to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Investigate and resolve customer incidents relating to our PCI platform.
  • Capture and analyse packet captures (PCAPs) using tools such as Wireshark.
  • Troubleshoot SIP signalling and media-related issues.
  • Work with telecommunications providers, technology partners and customers to identify and resolve faults.
  • Configure and onboard new customer environments.
  • Perform routine platform maintenance and system updates.
  • Support Linux-based systems and associated hypervisor infrastructure.
  • Assist with datacentre deployments, maintenance and hardware installation.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and records.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours support rota and planned maintenance activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes and platform reliability.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys solving complex technical problems.
  • Takes ownership of issues and sees them through to resolution.
  • Works well as part of a team but is equally comfortable working independently.
  • Can communicate confidently with customers, suppliers and colleagues.
  • Is naturally curious and enjoys understanding how things work.
  • Is organised, reliable and takes pride in delivering excellent service.
  • Has a positive attitude and isn't afraid to get stuck into whatever needs doing.

Essential skills

  • Experience working with SIP and VoIP technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Experience capturing and interpreting network packet traces (PCAPs).
  • Good understanding of IP networking.
  • Experience administering Linux systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work methodically under pressure.
  • A willingness to learn new technologies and continuously develop technical skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in a datacentre environment.
  • Knowledge of SBCs, RTP and media troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting hosted voice or unified communications platforms.
  • Familiarity with virtualisation technologies.
  • Exposure to scripting or automation (Bash, Python, PowerShell etc.).
  • Experience working within an MSP, telecommunications or service provider environment.

Why Join Us?

As part of the Focus Group family, Silver Lining combines specialist expertise with the backing of one of the UK's leading technology providers. You'll have the opportunity to develop your skills, work with cutting-edge technologies, and play a key role in delivering secure, business-critical solutions.

If you're a curious problem-solver with a passion for technology, we'd love to hear from you.
