The UNU-IAS Internship Programme aims to provide young scholars with an opportunity to learn more about the work of UNU-IAS and UNU, as well as gain hands-on experience at a think tank within the UN system. The internship programme also encourages young scholars to advance their own studies related to sustainability by contributing to the institute’s policy-relevant research projects.
Eligibility
Interns are recruited through a competitive application process, and should be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme at the time of application and during the internship. Undergraduate students in the final academic year and recent graduates who have completed a graduate or undergraduate degree programme within two years will also be considered if their research topics are linked to the work of UNU-IAS.
Duration
The minimum duration of an internship is two months and the maximum duration is six months. A part-time intern must work the equivalent of a minimum of at least two months on a full-time basis (320 hours).
Expenses
Interns who are not in receipt of financial support for the purpose of this internship from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UNU to partially subsidize basic daily expenses for the duration of the internship. Costs and arrangements for insurance, visas, transportation, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibilities of interns and/or their sponsoring institutions.
*UNU-IAS accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of interns or costs arising from accidents and illnesses incurred during an internship. Therefore, interns are requested to provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan, as well as a declaration or medical certificate of good health.
